What you shouldn’t miss out on in Merano

The top 11 attractions

You only know Merano/Meran when you’ve seen...

The symbol of the city on the Passer river (which meanders through Merano) is undoubtedly the Kurhaus. This unmistakable art nouveau building was built in the 19th century and impresses with its grand halls where even today a variety of occasions, from social events to gala evenings, take place. Stroll around the streets in the old town and visit the Puccini Theatre, the Kunst Meran museum under the arches and the countless green spaces in the spa town. You must visit the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff castle, at one time Empress Sissi’s summer residence and today the site of the Touriseum, the State Museum of Tourism. On your way to the centre, the synagogue and Jewish museum are worth a visit, with information about the early days of the Jewish community in Merano around the end of the 19th century. The crowning glory is a plunge into one of the 15 pools (indoor and outdoor) at the Therme Meran spa. If you’re a fan of equestrian sports then have a look at the racing calendar. The Merano Racecourse is a real gem.
