Jazz is in the air
The jazz world will once again descend on South Tyrol from 28 June to 7 July, with musicians from all over the world playing more than 50 concerts across the province. Aptly enough, the slogan for the 2019 festival is ‘New Sounds - Fresh Perspectives’.
2019 marks another tour of discovery for the South Tyrol Jazz Festival, with a special focus on the music of the Iberian peninsula. From 28 June to 7 July, South Tyrol will be transformed into an open-air stage as 57 concerts featuring international artists get both the townsand the mountains in the groove.
Pianist Marco Mezquida, named Musician of the Year by the “Asociación de Músicos de Jazz y Moderna de Cataluña”, is set to play a series of concerts with a variety of ensembles. The festival will also be welcoming back a few regulars, including the Dutch duo of guitarist Reinier Baas and saxophonist Joris Roelofs, Mexican bassist and singer Fuensanta Méndez, British marching band Perhaps Contraption, French singer Leïla Martial and Vienna-based one-man orchestra Lukas König.
Among the venues making their festival debut in 2019 are the BASIS innovation and start-up centre in Silandro/Schlanders, the Nature Museum in Bolzano/Bozen, the Hotel La Perla inCorvara, Hocheppan Castle, the Alperia hydroelectric power plant in Bressanone/Brixen, the Ost West Country Club in Merano/Meran’s Marconi Park and the new building at Kellerei Bozen winery. The 2019 festival will also be the first to feature concerts held in huts on Speikboden mountain (at Campo Tures/Sand in Taufers) and a jazz hike to the Ansitz Velseck estate in Tires/Tiers. All in all, a perfect slate of locations for experiencing ‘New Sounds - Fresh Perspectives’.
