The special exhibition “Die Hutterer. A Search for Traces in Klausen” is accompanied by the collaborative UNIKA exhibition under the Ladin title “PESC” (meaning PEACE) – an ideal that connects both exhibitions at the Civic Museum Klausen. They are part of the initiatives for the Euregio Museums Year 2025 “weiter sehen,” which, in memory of the Peasants’ War of 1525, addresses contemporary themes. The Hutterites A Search for Traces in Klausen The nearly 500-year history of the Hutterites, who were expelled from Tyrol in the 16th century, is that of a minority that was marginalized and persecuted due to their religious beliefs and communal organization. However, their story is also one of plurality and openness to foreign ideas. The teachings of the Anabaptists found great support in Tyrol, including in Klausen. One of the most significant preachers and religious leaders of the Hutterites, Peter Walpot, was a native of Klausen. At the same time, the Hutterites were subjected to relentless persecution, as evidenced by well-documented cases from Klausen. Jakob Huter, born near St. Lorenzen, took on the leadership of the Anabaptists in Tyrol at an early stage and organized their communal life. In the 16th century, the Anabaptists moved to tolerant Moravia, marking a period of prosperity. From the 17th century onward, they were forced to migrate further until they eventually reached North America. Here, despite facing some crises, they managed to preserve their faith and a well-functioning community to this day. The Villanders mine in the Eisack Valley, with a wide view of the Dolomites, was one of the most important mining areas in Tyrol in the Middle Ages. At that time, silver, galena, copper and much more were mined. The Villanders Culture and Museum Association has carefully restored the mine in recent years. It is now one of the few mines in South Tyrol that is open to visitors. Guided tours only from April to October on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 and 14:30, Sundays at 10:30 (duration approx. 1.5 h) In July & August additionally on Wednesdays at 10:30 (duration approx. 2 h). IMPORTANT: arrive at the mine at least 10 minutes in advance! Individual special tours are available all year round on request. All prices can be found on the mine's website.

The spring hike on the sunny slope of Barbian leads past fields of flowers, streams, chestnut trees and historic buildings to "Dreikirchen". Meeting place at 10am at the Information Office Barbian. Free guided tours of the Swiss Mountain Pine Oil Distillery on the Alps of Barbiano/Barbian from 14th May until 29th October 2025 every Wednesday from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm. The farmers sell their fresh products at the square "Tinneplatz" from 8:00 - 12:30. Fresh, seasonal food and typical South Tyrolean products are available at the farmers' market in Klausen.

As colourful as spring, this hike offers a varied nature experience with flowering meadows, fragrant mountain herbs, impressive mountain panoramas and historical traces of alpine farming. In the pre-summer period, the Klausner Garden Show with around 30 exhibitors offers everything for gardens, balconies and terraces: seeds and young plants, flowers and herbs as well as many other plants and plant rarities, raised beds and wooden verandas, practical garden technology, garden furniture, stone fountains, stone figures and various works of art made of stone, steel and wood, barbecues and fireplaces as well as insect hotels, wickerwork, decorations and accessories. Including a large selection of organic products. On both days, we offer a great supporting programme for the whole family: visitors can look forward to specialist lectures on the subject of gardening and gardening, musical entertainment and a craft workshop. Our gourmet and tasting corner offers typical and homemade products from South Tyrol. Food and drink will also be provided. The admission fee of €4.00 per person includes the entire supporting programme as well as admission to the Klausen civic museum and the permanent exhibitions of the Klausen artists' colony and the Loreto treasure. Admission is free for children up to the age of 14 and for people with disabilities.

The 7th National Basket Weaving Symposium takes place for the first time in South Tyrol as part of the event ‘’Brennende Liab‘’. Around 30 market stalls will be set up in the old town centre, where basket weavers from all over Italy will present their work and offer live demonstrations and workshops.

Thanks to the collaboration of many local associations, a unique village trail has been created in Villanders. Along the circular route, each association presents its own station, offering fascinating insights into village life, culture, and traditions. The trail invites both visitors and locals to discover Villanders from a new perspective – whether by exploring the different stations or enjoying a relaxing break with regional specialties. A wonderful experience for anyone who wants to actively explore the village and enjoy Villanders’ warm hospitality.

The traditional monthly market is held on the market square from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm.

The hiking guide will accompany you on this easy circular hike through mountain pine fields to the demonstration distillery at Marzuner Schupfe. Here, you’ll gain an interesting insight into the distillation process, from the mountain pine to the essential oil. For the lunch break, a mountain hut will be visited alternately. Free of charge for holders of the Guest Pass and guests of member establishments. (Transportation and lunch not included)

Not only in the Sarentino Valley, the valley of the mountain pines, does the mountain pine grow, but also on the acidic silicate soils of the Villandro Alp. The power of this mountain plant is immense. The beneficial and fragrant essential oil is perfect for relaxing baths, for infusions and compresses, or as an ingredient in scrubs. In an aroma lamp, the scent helps to improve the room atmosphere. Every Monday, a distillation demonstration takes place. All interested visitors can gain insight into how the mountain pine is processed into essential oil.

In Villanders, processions are an integral part of religious and cultural life. On special church holidays such as Pentecost, Corpus Christi, the Feast of the Sacred Heart, the Assumption of Mary, and Rosary Sunday, the village community walks through the streets in a procession after Holy Mass. They are accompanied by the Villanders brass band and the “Anton von Gasteiger” rifle company, who lend the traditional celebrations a dignified and atmospheric character.

Guided walking-tour to Kneipp at the waterfall of Barbian.
