This trail runs along both banks from the Gilf Gorge down to the point where the river enters the city. On the right bank, it connects directly with the path that leads to the Powder Tower and the Tappeiner Promenade; on the left, it joins with the Summer Promenade. Gilf Promenade is particularly intriguing for its subtropical vegetation. Its Walk of Poets also makes it the most romantic of Merano’s promenades: modern and contemporary love poetry is engraved onto a series of benches here.

The beautiful panorama is normally the reward once you've climbed up to the highest point of a tour. But not on this hike to the Astjoch ridge: here there is a viewing platform right where you start at the Zumis car park. But don't let this hold you back from the hike itself, as a wealth of wonderful routes await you, crossing wide open meadows and pastures before finally reaching the Astjoch ridge itself. High above the Lüsner valley, it boasts exceptionally wide views of the Alps, over the Pustertal valley and the Dolomites. To help you get your bearings, the names of the countless mountain ranges and peaks that you can see have been engraved into a stone slab in the ground. A large part of the hike passes through nature conservation areas, where farmed mountain pastures alternate with upland moors and little marshy valley cuttings. The route also promises a number of curiosities to enjoy on the way, such as the little Alpine chapel Pianer Kreuz.

At first, a well-marked but narrow trail takes us through an interesting forest with a number of inviting benches to rest on. Soon the trail becomes wider and the scenery more varied: a river biotope, a newly-planted forest, low-growing mixed woodland and meadows. At Stange we go over a bridge and walk along the tarmac cycle path to Mareit/Mareta. If you wish, you can walk to the square by the church where an interesting nature trail begins. Exploring the themes of woodland and water, it takes you past the castle (open for visitors). The return is along the same route. You can also start the hike in Stanghe, which shortens it by about an hour. Quality of the trail: for a short distance, narrow, then wider and tarmac to Stanghe. All types of buggy.
