Since the 16th century, many forests were under the Tyrolean sovereignty. In those forests, the “Herrensteig” paths were created. Experience the impressive circular hiking tour “Herrnsteige”, with spectacular views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Geisler Mountains of Villnöss/Funes valley.
Start and end of hike: Car park Zans. Duration: 4:00 h, Distance: 10 km, Difference in altitude: 790 m, Maximum Altitude: 2.259 m.
From the Zans car park (1680 m), walk past the game reserve until just before the lime kiln. From here, take trail no. 32B, then 32 or "Unterer Herrensteig" west to the meadow Kofelwiese. From the Kofelwiese, trail no. 32A leads into the Günther-Messner-Steig (GM). Turn right here and follow the Günther-Messner-Steig to the Furtschellensattel to the junction with trail no. 25 or "Oberer Herrensteig". On the upper Herrensteig trail you then hike downhill to the Kaserill Bach stream and on trail no. 25 back to the Zans car park.
Through the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley to Klausen/Chiusa turn into Villnöss/Funes valley and drive to Zans
