A challenging mountain hike with a stunning view of the surrounding Dolomites. The last part beneath the summit consists of a via ferrata on which belaying with a climbing harness is recommended.
• The hike starts at the car park Würzjoch pass (2006 m). Follow trail no. 8A passing by several alpine huts. At the intersection which you reach after 20 minutes, keep to the right and continue on trail no. 8A. You get to the beginning of the Peitlerscharte/Forcella de Putia from where you follow trail no. 4 which becomes steeper and leads up to the highest point of the Peitlerscharte (2357 m). Trail no. 4B starts to your left and it leads in serpentines to the access to the via ferrata. There you can find enough space to put on you climbing harness. Then continue on the via ferrata (equipped with steel ropes) to the summit of Mount Peitlerkofel (2875 m). Descent like ascent.
Alternatively, you can hike to the lower peak of Peitlerkofel (2813 m). Slightly below the access of the via ferrata, this trail starts to the left and leads to the lower peak without vie ferratas.
Carry suitable equipment.
Through the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley to Klausen/Chiusa; turn into Villnöss/Funes valley and drive to St. Peter. Continue from there on the road to Würzjoch pass.
