pilgrimage site Latzfonser Kreuz
The small church on the Kassianspitze mountain was built in 1868 on the ruins of a chapel destroyed by fire. Located at 2,300 m above sea level, it is one of the highest pilgrimage sites in Europe. Admire the “Schwarzer Herrgott,” a wooden cross that is transported from Lazfons/Latzfons and back as part of a celebratory procession in summer. The crucifix is believed to provide protection against severe weather. A mountain hut is located next to the Latzfonser Kreuz church where visitors can eat and spend the night.
