Holidays in the untouched Gsiesertal Valley

Sun and nature on holiday in the vast

At an altitude of between 1,191 and 2,837 m, the wide and sunny  Gsiesertal Valley stretches from Welsberg-Taisten to Pichl/Colle and the main town of St. Martin/San Martino and all the way to St. Magdalena/S. Maddalena. Get to know the vast and untouched Gsiesertal Valley with its plentiful hiking possibilities and rustic old farmhouses. The Almweg 2000 trail is particularly noteworthy and passes by numerous staffed huts serving drinks and local fare. In winter, the valley transforms into a paradise for cross-country skiers, boasting an extensive trail network that forms part of the Dolomiti NordicSki association. Alpine skiers will also find plenty to enjoy at the Gsies ski lift, with its seamless connections to the “Ski Pustertal Express” and onward to the renowned ski areas of Kronplatz and 3 Zinnen Dolomites.

Sustainable Gsiesertal Valley

In the Gsiesertal, a side valley of the Pustertal Valley, nature has always taken center stage. Living mindfully and in harmony with the environment is a long-standing tradition here. For this commitment, the region has been awarded the South Tyrol Sustainability Label, Level 3. As you hike through alpine landscapes, forests and mountain pastures all the way up to the peaks, you’ll notice how carefully this cultural landscape is maintained. Local hut hosts serve dishes made with ingredients from nearby farms and farm shops, while craftspeople continue to practice age-old traditions. Would you like to be part of this sustainable way of life? You can make a difference from the moment you arrive – the entire valley is well connected by public transport.

Produced in the Gsiesertal, enjoyed on site

In the Gsiesertal, enjoyment revolves around local products. The valley is especially known for the Gsieser Valley alpine pasture ox. From spring onwards, the animals graze on fresh mountain meadows and feed on aromatic herbs. This creates tender, high-quality meat that people have valued for over 200 years, with strong respect for animal welfare.

After a hike or a bike tour, alpine huts invite you to stop by. They serve traditional dishes made with regional ingredients, accompanied by clear views of the Dolomites.

Alongside meat, products such as cheese, butter, honey, eggs, potatoes, grains, jams and mountain schnapps shape the local offer. You can buy them directly from farmers. Traditional crafts also play an important role and you can find them throughout the valley.

The shopping experience
