The hike starts at the Kühhof car park above Latzfons. Head northwest on forest trail over the open Alpine meadows passing through sparse larch and pine forests to the Klausner Hütte mountain hut (1923 m). Continue along the hiking trail passing the Rungger Hütten huts and Plankenbach brook. Also known as the Kreuzweg (Way of the Cross), the trail then crosses a pine forest before winding its way up a steep slope to the pilgrimage church and mountain shelter at Latzfonser Kreuz. Continue up trail no. 9. Finally, the route leads to the Kassiansee mountain lake and the Kassianspitze summit (2581 m) slightly beyond. The return is back the same way as the ascent.

Ski tour to the Dosso di Fuori
Graun im Vinschgau/Curon Venosta, Vinschgau/Val Venosta

The Äußerer Nockenkopf is famous for being a rather easy mountain to ski and also for its beautiful location above the highest hamlet in the eastern Alps. The ski tour begins at the end of the village of Resia/Reschen. Altitude gain: 1,250 m Time to ascend: roughly 4 hours Slope direction: east Skiing demands: medium Climbing demands: easy Note: exercise caution during the ascent after the Kalkwaldhütte mountain hut and on the summit slope! For the ascent to the peak, follow the route to the left at the end of the Pofel ski lift. Follow the groomed trail to the Vallierteck pilgrimage chapel. Above the chapel, turn right, following the signs to ‘Nockenkopf’ until you reach the road that leads to the Reschner Alm Alpine farm. From here bear left heading gently downhill and then right again along the trail following the signs to the ‘Kalkwaldhütte’ mountain hut. Here head rather carefully from left to right uphill over the moderately steep and wide ridge to the Stielegg cross. Traverse horizontally with caution to the left (west) into the large trough, continuing to ascend to the left toward the foot of the Nockenkopf’s southern slope. Keeping to the right, head up the rather steep slope and over the ridge to the peak. Those looking for a quicker ascent can drive to Roia/Rojen. Avalanche danger: minimal

to the Grionplotten - Ski tour an higking
Graun im Vinschgau/Curon Venosta, Vinschgau/Val Venosta
Starting point: Small car park (1920m) at the end of the road to Rojen/Schöneben. Descent: along the ascent route Notes: In good conditions and with a sensible choice of route, the tour does not present any particular difficulties. Avoid at all costs in unfavourable visibility conditions (orientation difficulties!) Ascent: On the right side of the valley, the route is initially rather flat, heading south-westwards. Before you come to a collection of idyllic mountain barns, you climb over the gentle slopes of the mountain meadows, keeping slightly to the right, before ascending to the right over an almost treeless ridge. The first slope is a little steep and requires caution, then continue over the ridge until you reach the Wetterkreuz cross south of the Inn. Nockenkopf (up to here the tour corresponds to that to the Inner Nockenkopf). Continue westwards over gentle hollows. At first glance, the destination is not yet clearly recognisable, but as the ascent progresses, everything becomes clearer. A little caution is required on the last summit slope, which is negotiated from left to right. Further ascent: You can also continue further into the valley and follow the first section of the route to the Grionkopf, then, always skilfully avoiding steep slopes and V-slopes, turn right up towards Grionplotten.
