Competition route Marmotta trophy

Hintermartell/Altavalle, Martell/Martello, Vinschgau/Val Venosta
from center
Once a year a spectacular racing weekend takes place in the rear Val Martello. 12 events so far; but they are all individual. This is one of the special features of the Marmotta Trophy, because thanks to its ideal location in the middle of the Ortles-Cevedale group with its many 3000m peaks, this ski touring race offers countless track possibilities.
Itinerary
Individual Race: The start is at the former Hotel Paradiso (2088 m.a.s.l.) at the end of the Val Martello. In a breathtaking scenery, the world-class athletes have to master the 1,700 metres of altitude difference between ascent, carry and downhill passages in the shortest possible time. The length and degree of difficulty of the course varies according to the categories. The Master-Senior Men category, for example, has a length of 18.5 km and a difference in altitude of 1,950 m. The first ascent goes up to the Zufallhütte mountain hut, from where the first pass is taken on foot to the Klösterle (2,400). Then the first descent takes you below the Zufallhütte mountain hut and then the route continues uphill again, passing a flat section towards the Martellerhütte mountain hut. The Martellerhütte mountain hut (2,600 m) is reached on foot through a spectacular gully. At the Martellerhütte mountain hut the women will change their route and start the second descent, while the men will continue their ascent towards the "Hohenferner" up to an altitude of about 3,000 m below the "Marmotta". After the second descent there is another flat stretch before reaching the last carrying passage: a spectacular gully, very steep (up to 40°) and with an altitude difference of 200 metres. Again with skis on their feet, the athletes will reach a height of 2,800 metres below the top of the chute. Then the men start the last descent down towards the finish. Here they put on their skins for the last time and the finish line is reached in a small climb on skis.
