From Merano, you can take the cable car up to the mountain station in Piffing. Alternatively, you can travel to Falzeben by bus or car and take the Falzeben cable car to Piffing – this is where your actual hut hike begins.
The first place to stop for refreshments along the route is the Piffinger Köpfl mountain hut. From there, trail no. 3 takes you on to the Waidmann Alm and then either to the Kirchsteiger Alm mountain hut or directly to the Meraner Hut. A gently sloping hiking trail will eventually take you to the Rotwandhütte. There you have a choice: either return leisurely to Piffing or hike via Chalet Zuegg to Falzeben.
At the end of the tour, you can take the cable car or walk back to the mountain station of the cable car in Piffing or Falzeben, depending on where your starting point was.

Coming from both directions of the freeway Meran/Merano - Bolzano/Bozen (MEBO), take the exit of Meran Süd/Merano Sud and follow directions towards Meran first, to then turn right towards Hafling/Avelengo
