Holidays in the Passeiertal valley

From Mediterranean clime to the peak of the Timmelsjoch pass in the Passeiertal valley

North of Meran/Merano, the original natural landscape of the Passeiertal valley  extends along an old long-distance trading route  all the way up to the peak of the  Timmelsjoch pass. Located in the middle of the Texelgruppe Nature Park, the home of freedom fighter Andreas Hofer offers perfect holiday conditions for families and hikers. The villages of the Passeiertal valley inspire with their peculiarities: while in Riffian/Rifiano and Kuens/Caines, the proximity to Meran/Merano and the Mediterranean influence are highly noticeable, in the main towns of St. Martin/San Martino and St. Leonhard/San Leonardo, perfect starting points for hikes to higher realms can be found. Finally, in the Hinterpasseier valley lies the municipality of Moos/Moso, a member of the Alpine Pearls Association, with the idyllic mountain village of Rabenstein/Corvara, the peaceful mountain hamlet of Platt/Plata, sunny Stuls/Stulles and the holiday resort of Pfelders/Plan, which embraces gentle mobility.

The best reasons to stay

Hike through forests and meadows to popular excursion destinations, peaceful spots and cultural treasures. These selected tips will help you get much closer to the province and its people.

Sustainable Passeiertal Valley

The Passeiertal Valley has always been shaped by water, an element that has defined both the landscape and the lives of its people for centuries. Rushing waterfalls and the wild Passerschlucht gorge give the valley its unique character. In the Upper Passeiertal valley, the sheer power of glaciers is truly impressive, while in the Lower Passeiertal, the historic Waalwege (irrigation channels) tell the story of how water has been sustainably managed over the centuries. But the Passeiertal Valley goes even further: for decades, the valley has been generating clean energy from hydropower. This form of energy production combines environmental awareness with technological progress, demonstrating how forward-thinking innovation can complement tradition. The Sustainability Label South Tyrol highlights the valley’s exemplary initiatives – from preserving the Waalwege to harnessing renewable energy sources.
