You start at the parking lot in the Winnebachtal valley and follow the gently ascending trail no. 23 to the Astnerbergalm. From here, the trail becomes steeper. At the waterfall, a flatter section follows before another ascent leads to the Tiefrastenhütte and Tiefrastensee.
From there, continue uphill along trail no. 24 towards Hochsägescharte. The route then turns left and follows trail no. 24, which leads over easy climbing sections to the summit of Hochgrubbachspitze at 2,811 metres. The summit offers sweeping panoramic views.
The descent follows the same route via the Tiefrastenhütte and Astnerbergalm back to the parking lot in the Winnebachtal valley, the finishing point of the tour.
Bring enough food and water, as there are only a few places to stop for refreshments along the route. Sure-footedness and a good head for heights are required for the summit ascent. Start as early as possible to take advantage of the morning tranquillity and clear views.
