from center
The mountain bike tour from Aldein / Lerch to Auer-Leger Alm near Jochgrimm traverses some of the most spectacular landscapes of South Tyrol. Spanning a total distance of about 30 km with an elevation gain of approximately 450 m, the route blends asphalt and predominantly gravel paths, with a consistent incline of about 10%. In addition to the physical challenge, cyclists are rewarded with the natural beauty of the Dolomites, diverse flora, and the geological uniqueness of the Geoparc Bletterbach, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The best months for this tour are late spring, summer, and autumn when nature is at its most vibrant.

Details
The route includes varied terrain with gravel paths, forest sections, and inclines. A helmet is essential, along with careful riding to navigate slippery areas safely. Watch out for hikers and vehicles on forest trails. Sudden weather changes can make the route more challenging, so carrying a phone for emergencies is advisable.
A well-maintained mountain bike or e-bike and a helmet are mandatory. Weather-appropriate clothing, sufficient water, and a repair kit are essential. Sun and rain protection are recommended depending on the forecast. A GPS or map helps with navigation.
A visit to the Bletterbach Gorge, often called South Tyrol’s “Canyon,” is an impressive geological experience. From the Lahner Alm parking lot, near the Schmieder Alm, a short trail leads directly into the gorge. Since the Ice Age, erosion has removed 10 billion tons of rock, unveiling a unique geological record. Particularly striking are the steep rock walls, revealing three major geological layers: porphyry, sandstone, and dolomitic limestone. A fascinating journey through Earth’s history that will captivate every visitor.
From Auer or Neumarkt, you can reach the Geopark Bletterbach using public transport. First, take the bus towards Aldein. Depending on the season, there may be a shuttle service available from there, or you can continue with a local bus to the Geopark parking lot. Alternatively, you can hike to the entrance of the Bletterbach from the nearest town. Updated timetables can be found on the South Tyrolean public transport website.
Directions
Reach Aldein / Lerch easily by car via the well-maintained main road. For a more eco-friendly approach, consider taking the public bus from Auer or Neumarkt, although bicycle transport is limited to three bikes.
Parking
There are ample parking spaces available at Schmieder Alm or the Geopark Bletterbach parking lot. These are ideal as a starting point for the tour.
