The round of the Reschensee is a special experience for hikers and runners. The wonderful views of the Ortler is unique. The tower in the lake completes the picture. He is the last witness of the sunken village of Graun which can live the story.
Start/finish: historic church tower in Graun (large parking area).
Route: from the tower, follow the eastern shore counterclockwise towards St. Valentin auf der Haide. At the southern shore, cross the dam wall. The return follows the quieter western shore via Kaschon to Reschen and finally along the northern shore back to Graun.
Characteristics: approx. 15.3 km, mostly asphalt or well-maintained gravel, with almost no elevation gain. Ideal for running, Nordic walking or relaxed hiking.
LAKE LOOP - BIKE PATH CLOSURE:
From May 9, 2024, until further notice, a section of the bike path between Curon SS.40 km 24+300 (start of the galleries) and St. Valentin SS.40 km 22+900 (Fisherman's Association parking lot) will be closed to bicycles and pedestrians.
Train: take the Vinschgau Railway from Merano to the final station in Mals.
Bus: from Mals, bus line 273 (Mals–Reschen–Martinsbruck) goes directly to the “Graun im Vinschgau, Lake” stop.
From the north (D/A): via the Reschen Pass (B180/SS40) towards Italy/Vinschgau. Shortly after the border you reach Reschen and soon after Graun.
From the south (I): via the Merano–Schlanders expressway (SS38) and then along the SS40 through the Vinschgau valley towards Reschen Pass to Graun.
Main parking: directly at the historic church tower in Graun (paid parking).
Alternatives: free or cheaper parking is available at the valley stations of the Schöneben (Reschen) and Haideralm (St. Valentin) cable cars.
