Itinerary

This spectacular 4-stage hike crosses through the Eisacktal Valley from the Rodenecker and Lüsner Alm mountain pastures, over the Plose mountain near Brixen/Bressanone to Lajen/Laion at the entrance to the Grödnertal Valley.

The 61 km Dolorama Trail starts gently before crossing diverse types of terrain in the Eisacktal Valley. The blossoming Alpine pastures on the Rodenecker and Lüsner Alm pastures give way to rugged terrain on the Aferer and Villnösser Geisler mountains before descending to Lajen. Among the unusual rock formations found along the way are striking landmarks: the imposing Peitlerkofel in Villnöss/Funes, the Gömajoch ridge in the Puez-Geisler Nature Park as well as the Villnösser Geisler peaks. Beneath the Geislergruppe mountains near Raschötz, the panorama opens out on the Langkofel and Plattkofel peaks and the Schlern plateau.

Running along nearly the entire length on the forest roads, the Dolorama Trail crosses a tarred road only once. Well-positioned rest stops and beautiful spots along the way inspire contemplation: the prehistoric human settlement in Astmoos on the Lüsner Alm mountain pasture and the geological formation in the Moibach gorge above the Würzjoch ridge. Here, the terrain opens to steep mountain slopes, gorges and loose rocks. Along the Munkelweg Trail, the geological structure of the Dolomites is clearly visible. After crossing the gentle Raschötz plateau and the descent down some steps to Lajen, the trail comes to the end of the hike.
