St. Sebastian Chapel dates back to a vow made around 400 years ago, when the plague reached Tiers. At that time, the village was under the administration of the Lords of Völsegg. Fearing that the Black Death might reach his castle, the lord vowed to build a chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian if his family were spared. Today, the chapel stands as a silent reminder of that era. It can only be viewed from the outside, as the interior is not accessible.
Starting right in the center of Tiers, you can follow the “Besinnungsweg” reflection trail up to the chapel, with several stations along the way. If you want to continue your hike, the Wuhnleger is only about 30 minutes from the chapel – ideal for extending your walk.
Directions
The St. Sebastian Chapel is accessible only on foot– about 40–50 minutes from the village center of Tiers.
