Itinerary

From the Head of the Valley in the Gsiesertal Valley – St. Magdalena (1465 m) follow trail markers no. 47/48 over the bridge, then immediately turn left and after the Schlosserhof farm turn right. The path now leads through an old cattle trail towards the Tscharniettal. On the right you are accompanied by the natural toboggan run, on the left by a magnificent winter landscape. At about 1627 m you reach a junction with clear signposts; turn right across a wooden bridge and continue on forest road no. 48. Before the next crossing of the Tscharniet stream, at about 1851 m (a small power station is on the right), leave the familiar alpine path and climb on the orographic right side of the stream through light larch meadows – a real Eldorado for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. Pass the new alpine huts (1976 m), keeping left across wide, open and ascending ridges. At about 2000 m, already above the tree line, keep slightly left again and you will see, in an easterly direction, the notch of the Kalksteinjöchl (2349 m), literally guarded by the Geil and Körlspitze.
