Itinerary
The hike to Astjoch starts at the Kreuzner parking lot above the hamlet of Ellen. Below the parking, the well-marked forest trail no. 67 branches off in direction Astjoch/Burgstall. It leads on a pleasant ascent to the charming alpine hut "Walderalm", which after about an hour is the perfect place to take a break and enjoy the view of the Bruneck valley basin. Behind the hut, the trail winds its way to the near forest border and then climbs gently through panoramic meadows and pastures to Astjoch. At the high summit cross, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Pustertal valley, the Zillertal Alps, the Eisacktal valley and the Dolomites. A panorama point displays the names of some of the surrounding mountain peaks. Return along the same route. Alternatively, you can descend to the plateau Rodenecker Alm in the direction of the huts Starkenfeldhütte and Rastnerhütte, where you first follow trail no. 67 and then trail no. 67B back to the starting point.
