From the Tourism office in St. Martin (1276 m) follow the road to the Mara Kirchl chapel and there turn right to reach the Karbacherhof (1425 m, refreshments available; also accessible by car). From there follow the Karbachtal valley to the Schäfer Alm (1616 m) and continue on the forest road with trail marker no. 52 branching to the right. Continue southwestwards through steep wooded slopes into a small alpine valley (approx. 1800 m), then on trail no. 52 past hay barns and across the Vigeiner meadows up to a small ridge depression (approx. 2100 m), from there rightwards to the cross on the Hörneggele (2127 m).
