This varied circular walk around Pfalzen combines the experience of nature, beautiful viewpoints and cultural and historical highlights. The route takes you through the typical cultural landscape of the Puster Valley, with meadows, woods and rural hamlets, whilst offering charming views of Pfalzen and the surrounding mountains at every turn.
A particular highlight is the ‘Forchner Bichl’, which is also the highest point of the walk. A long granite bench here invites you to take a leisurely break and offers a lovely vantage point over the village and the surrounding countryside.
The walk is particularly suitable for anyone looking for a moderately challenging, scenically varied route featuring peaceful woodland sections, open meadows and lovely places to rest. The combination of nature, views and regional culture creates a varied circular walk that offers an authentic insight into the area around Pfalzen.
From the school square in Pfalzen, you first follow the Pfaffensteig towards Issing and Haselried. From here, you continue along path no. 7 and then turn right onto path 19A, heading up to the hill “Forchner Bichl”, the highest point of the walk, where a long granite bench invites you to take a well-deserved break whilst enjoying a beautiful view of Pfalzen. You then continue along path 19B to the little chapel Bachstöckl – St. Margareth – and finally descend via the path 19 into the village centre, from where you return to the starting point.
As the hiking trails can be icy in winter, it is advisable to use microspikes.
There are no refreshment facilities along the path, so it is advisable to carry a packed lunch.
From the bus stop in Pfalzen you reach in about 10 minutes walking the school's square, where the tour starts.
From Bruneck, follow the SP40 for about 5 km towards Pfalzen. At the roundabout, turn right onto Michael Pacher Straße and follow it until the second-to-last junction, where you turn right onto Sichelburgstraße. After a few metres, turn left towards Schulhausplatz, where you can park.
