The Franz Huber Trail is a spectacular high-alpine route connecting the Lodnerhütte hut 2,259 m in the Zieltal Valley with Tablander Alm hut along the Merano High Mountain Trail (Meraner Höheweg Nr. 24).This exposed alpine path offers dramatic scenery and impressive views of the Texel Group.

Texelbahn cable car – Merano High Mountain Trail Nr. 24 – Nasereit Hut – Zielalm – Lodnerhütte hut ) – Franz Huber Trail – Sattelspitze – Tablander Alm hut – Merano High Mountain Trail – Nasereit Hut - Texelbahn cable car

From the Texelbahn mountain station, follow the Merano High Mountain Trail (Meraner Höhenweg Nr. 24) eastwards to Nasereit Hut (1,525 m).

Here, trail 8 leads into the Zieltal Valley via Zielalm (2,196 m) to the Lodnerhütte hut (2,259 m). From the hut, continue on the exposed Franz Huber Trail 7B, requiring sure footing and a head for heights.

At the junction, turn left onto trail 1 to Sattelspitze (2,429 m) and descend further to the Tablander Alm hut 1,788 m. Return along the Merano High Mountain Trail 24, passing the Nasereit hut to the Texelbahn cable car.

Suitable only for experienced and sure-footed mountaineers with a head for heights.

Did you know?

The Franz Huber Trail is named after the Merano mountaineer Franz Huber (1875–1941).

Huber was an important pioneer of alpine exploration in the Texel Group and a long-standing board member of the Merano section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club (DuÖAV). He played a key role in developing alpine infrastructure around the Lodnerhütte hut and the Hochganghaus hut.

The trail was dedicated to him in recognition of his significant contributions to mountaineering in the region.
