During the summer months there is a good bus connection from the Schlern region to the Sella Pass and back.
The cabin lift takes you up to Refuge Toni-Demetz at the Langkofelscharte. From here steeply downhill, trail n.525, through the rocky valley of the Plattkofel to Refuge Langkofelhütte.
From there through the gorge of Plattkofel over scree and rubble in a partly steep ascent up to the start of the via ferrata. Attention: danger of falling rocks and often steep snow fields at the entrance! The route continues over a steep gorge and in a complicated, partly exposed ascent and only partially secured (the parts to be climbed are mostly of grade I, but some passages are of grade II as well) over rocks, cracks, chimneys, ledges, partially slippery steps and scree to a wide channel under the summit.
Stepped, but somewhat fragile rock leads through it up to a saddle, from where one reaches the summit cross of the Plattkofel in a few minutes to the right over ridge.
From the summit back to the ridge via the ascent channel and to the right via trail n. 527 over scree down to refuge Plattkofel and via Friedrich-August-Trail, n.557, return to the Sella Pass in several ascents and descents.
