This demanding mountain tour starts at Lake Antholz and leads over Rotwand peak (2,818 m) and Höllensteinspitze peak (2,755 m) to the Grüblscharte (2,394 m), before descending to Antholz Obertal. This traverse is one of the most impressive alpine routes in the upper valley, offering spectacular views of the Rieserferner Group and the surrounding high mountain landscape.
The route along the panoramic ridge is part of the well-known 11-Summit Tour and provides a true high alpine experience. The ascent first heads towards Staller Saddle, before climbing up to Rotwand peak. From there, the route continues across alpine terrain to Höllensteinspitze peak and on to Grüblscharte.
A special highlight along the way are the Ochsenfelder Lakes, beautifully set in the alpine landscape.
The tour mostly takes place in open terrain and requires good fitness, sure-footedness, and alpine experience.
As an option, the tour can be shortened by taking the 2-Lakes shuttle up to Staller Saddle.
The descent leads from Grüblscharte down to Antholz Obertal, from where you can comfortably return to the starting point by bus line 431.
The starting point is Lake Antholz (approx. 1,640 m). From here, follow trail no. 11 towards Staller Saddle.
Variant:
Alternatively, you can start directly at Staller Saddle (2,052 m) by taking the 2-Lakes shuttle.
From Staller Saddle, trail no. 7 leads up to Rotwand peak (2,818 m). The final section requires sure-footedness and good fitness.
From the summit, follow the panoramic ridge – part of the 11-Summit Tour – along trail no. 9 to Höllensteinspitze peak (2,755 m).
Trail no. 9 then leads to the Ochsenfelder Lakes, one of the scenic highlights of the tour, and further to the Grüblscharte (2,394 m).
From there, descend on trail no. 9 to the Grüblalm hut (not serviced) and continue down to Antholz Obertal.
Return comfortably to the starting point by bus line 431.
If you prefer a more relaxed start, you can take the 2-Lakes shuttle up to Staller Sattel, saving a significant amount of elevation gain. On clear days, the ridge route offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Be sure to allow some time to stop at the Ochsenfelder Lakes, one of the most scenic highlights along the entire route.
Take bus line 431 from the Olang-Antholz train station to reach Lake Antholz, the starting point of the hike.

From the Puster Valley Road turn into the Antholz Valley and follow the road to Lake Antholz.
The starting point of the hike is located at the large paid parking area at the Biathlon Center.
