Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon

The “Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon” is the new edition of the popular "Val Gardena Mountain Run” and is one of the most scenic mountain runs in the world taking place right here in the heart of the Dolomites.

The 21,1 km trail run (with 900 metres of altitude difference) starts and ends in the beautiful area of Monte Pana and takes the runners along a partial rock and boulder route around the Sassolungo Group. Fantastic views are to be had over the Sella Group, Marmolada, Alpe di Siusi and Sciliar.

Itinerary
The trail around the Sassolungo is of undeniable appeal; a unique and unforgettable experience.

Starting from the enchanting Monte Pana, we climb up the first hill to arrive at Emilio Comici Hut. After which the trail develops along at a medium altidude of around 2.200 – 2.300 metres above sea level, until it reaches the famous Sasso Piatto Hut, where the desent to return to Monte Pana begins. The enchanting landscape together with the breathtaking panorama let us forget all our exertion. After crossing the legendary Stone City, formed of countless blocks of rock, we reach the Sella Pass, where we can enjoy a spectacular view towards the Marmolada glacier, Queen of the Dolomites. Following the trail we have firstly a beautiful panorama of the Fassa valley, and then of Alpe di Siusi- the biggest  mountain plateau in the Alps, together with the Catinaccio group and the Sciliar massif, from which the natural park takes its name, and thanks to its alluring peaks Punta Santner and Punta Euringer became the symbol of South Tyrol.

Details

When running, you should always wear running shoes with non-slip soles. A suitable outfit for the time of year and a trail-running rucksack with a drink are also essential.

At the beginning of the summer season, some sections may still be snow-covered, depending on weather conditions. Please enquire about conditions before setting off on your hike.

The Dolomites SASLONG Half Marathon race takes place every year in June.

Bus to the bus stop S. Cristina Municipio/Rathaus , then ascent with the Monte Pana chairlift or by foot via hiking trail no. 30 (approx. 45 min).

Directions
The running track starts from Monte Pana in S. Crisitina, which you can reach by taking the chairlift Monte Pana from the centre of S. Cristina (free car park at the valley station).
 You can reach Monte Pana also by private car (chargeable car park) or by foot (approx. 40 min and 200 m of elevation).
Parking
Car park at the starting point: Monte Pana P1 & P2 (chargeable).
Alternative: Bus or car to the valley station of the Monte Pana lift and ascent with the lift.
