This easy hike starts in the center of Dorf Tirol/Tirolo and leads to the historic Thurnstein Castle, which, from its panoramic location, towers above the roofs of Meran/Merano.
The route follows Schlossweg through the Knappenloch tunnel into the Koestengraben gorge. Past the earth pyramids, the trail leads to Tyrol Castle. From here it heads gently downhill to St. Peter and along an almost level footpath to Thurnstein Castle (restaurant). Follow Laurinstraße downhill through orchards until, after approx. 2 km, the route reaches the small Thurn Castle. Turn left into Gnaidweg and continue along this road as far as the swimming pool (lido). Then follow the pedestrian footpath along main street back to the center of Dorf Tirol.
Take bus 221 from Merano to Dorf Tirol bus station in the centre of the village.
Along the Bolzano/Bozen-Meran/Merano expressway to the exit Meran South-Sinich/Sinigo - Dorf Tirol/Tirolo - along the main street to the tourist information association (main street 31).
Chargeable parking just down from the tourist information association near the turn-off onto Aichweg.
