Hiking

360° Alta Val Venosta: Planol/Planeil - Mazia/Matsch

Mals/Malles, Vinschgau/Val Venosta
from center

The fifth stage of the circular hiking trail 360° Upper Vinschgau Valley trumps with unique views from the giant swing.

Itinerary

The fifth and more challenging stage of the 360° Obervinschgau circular hiking trail starts in the quiet village of Planeil and leads to “Matsch”. The new route no. 15 first leads to “Martinskapelle”, a quiet place surrounded by nature. After a short climb via routes no. 16 and no. 12, the Malettes high plateau offers a dreamlike backdrop to the entire Upper Vinschgau Valley. Soon, the popular 4-metre-high giant swing comes into view, inviting you to take a break. Next to it is a viewing platform with the names of the surrounding mountain peaks engraved on it. An unforgettable view and, as a highlight, a gigantic view of the Ortler group, with the three peaks of Ortler, Zebru and Königsspitze. After this mountain spectacle, the route continues on flat ground along the old military road No. 16, via the hamlet of “Muntetschinig” to South Tyrol's first mountaineering village, Matsch, via trail No. 14.
