In the north of South Tyrol, more precisely, starting from Vipiteno-Sterzing to the Ahrntal valley in the North - the well-known group of the Zillertal Alps stretches along the state border with Austria.


The mountain tour is classified as moderately difficult and offers unforgettable moments. Sure-footedness, good physical condition, experience and good equipment are required.
Itinerary

Day 1

From Wiesener Hof, we follow the trail markers to the ruins of Oberpirchhof and ascend over the wooded ridge to Gschließegg (1670 m). We stay at this height, bypass Plitschalm (1820 m), and traverse the slopes of Sengetal to the huts at Trenser Joch. After the climb to Sengesspitze (2365 m), we reach Simile Mahdalm (2011 m) for overnight accommodation.

Hiking time: approx. 6 hours

Day 2

From Simile Mahdalm, we hike over Sengesalpe to Similekopf (2300 m) and follow Sengesbach upwards. Sengesjöchl (2620 m) provides the transition to Wilden See. Optionally, Wild Kreuzspitze (3134 m) can be climbed in an hour from Rauhtaljoch (2808 m). From Rauhtaljoch, we descend over firn "In die Pfann" and continue to Brixner Hütte for overnight accommodation.

Hiking time: approx. 5 hours

Day 3

From Brixner Hütte (2270 m), we ascend to Steinkarlscharte and then descend around Rübespitze to Pfunderer Joch. At about 2300 m, we cross Weitenbergalm and descend below Grindler See (2485 m) to Oberen Engbergalm (2123 m), where we spend the night in a basic, unstaffed emergency shelter.

Hiking time: approx. 5 hours

Day 4

From Oberen Engbergalm (2123 m), we climb back up to the high trail. We cross Dannelscharte (2437 m) and continue to Gaisscharte (2700 m), from where we descend. We then proceed to Edelrauthütte (2545 m) for overnight accommodation. A highlight is the view of Eisbruggsee.

Hiking time: approx. 6.5 hours

Day 5

From Edelrauthütte (2545 m), we follow Neveser Höhenweg No. 1 (beware of glacier streams) past the glacier tongues of Weißzint and Große Möseler to Chemnitzer Hütte (2420 m) for overnight accommodation. Optionally, Gamslahnernock (2869 m) can be climbed (additional time required: approx. 2 hours).

Hiking time: approx. 3 hours (approx. 5 hours with Gamslahnernock climb)

Day 6

On the well-marked Höhenweg No. 27, we hike to Tristensee (2344 m) and continue over Lappacher Jöchl (2371 m), Wurmtal Joch (2288 m), and Gornerjoch (2309 m). The path then leads us to Speikboden (2517 m), where we either descend to the mountain station of the chairlift or continue to Luttach. From there, we take bus and train back to Sterzing for overnight accommodation or the starting point.
