Snowshoe Hikes

Winter hike from San Felice (1270 m) to Monte Macaion/Gantkofel (1865 m)

St. Felix/San Felice, U.L.Frau i.W.-St. Felix/Senale-S.Felice, Meran/Merano and environs
from center

From San Felice/St. Felix via the Lake of San Felice/St. Felix to the 1865 m high Macaion/Gantkofel, a first-class viewpoint.

Attention: the path is not cleared in winter and can be icy or covered with deep snow. Always make sure you have good shoes and appropriate equipment!

Itinerary

Take the car towards the Passo Palade and then continue until just outside San Felice and just after the Gasthaus Rose (inn) a narrow road turns sharply to the left (signposted “Felixer Weiher”). Follow this road for approx. 1 km uphill to a small car park in the forest. From here (1350 m) follow trail no. 9 for 40 min. up a moderate incline to the wonderful Felixer Weiher pond. Next head right for a while around the lake and briefly along trail no. 511 then turn left and immediately right to continue on trail no. 500 (or old trail no. 512), initially down into a deep saddle then climbing again for 1 hr 45 min from Felixer Weiher to the summit of the 1865-metre-high Monte Macaion. Wonderful views into the far distance. Return route as per the outbound leg.
