From the Head of the Valley in S. Maddalena (1465 m) follow trail no. 12 across the new bridge, then turn left and after the Schlosser Hof left again, before shortly turning right into the old cattle drive, bordered by fences and shrubs. Near the Burger Hof cross the bridge over the Pfoi stream and ascend in wide bends through the snowy forest. Small clearings repeatedly open up, offering wonderful views of the valley and the impressive Dolomites of Prags rising in the southwest. At about 1870 m cross the Pfoi stream again, walk through fenced alpine meadows and reach the left-hand path that leads westwards to the Uwald Alm (2042 m, rest point).
Shortcut: About 100 m before the bridge over the Pfoi stream leave forest road no. 12, turn right past a big notice board and into the woods. Cross the narrow bridge at 1522 m with its wayside cross and follow the old Pfoi trail with long, steep ascents along the left side of the stream, up to 1800 m and then on to the Uwald Alm (2042 m, rest point) – with wonderful views across the Val Casies Valley.
