Moderate hike from St. Leonhard/S. Leonardo to the Ochsenalm on the Plose with views overlooking the Brixen/Bressanone basin.
The Ackerboden car park is accessed via the narrow road coming up from St. Leonhard. Start here on trail no. 6, just below the car park, climbing steeply through dense pine forest towards Ackerboden. The view only opens up at the rustic Ackerbodenalm mountain hut (1,762 m), in the first significant clearing in the woods. After a short break, continue up trail no. 6 towards the top of the forest line at about 2,000 m. As the trees start to thin out, deep down in the valley one can make out Brixen, as well as the slopes of the Plose. On the last short stretch to the rustic Ochsenalm (2,071 m), the track widens out. The mountain view from sunny terrace is breath-taking: Brixen and the Eisacktal Valley, Pfunderer Mountains as well as the Sarntaler and Zillertaler Alps.
To return, follow the same route back to the starting point.
From the Ochsenalm take the Brixen High Mountain Trail (trail no. 30), to the mountain station of the Plose gondola lift (2,050 m).
