This circular hike leads to Lake Carezza, one of the most famous alpine lakes in the Dolomites. Its vibrant colours and the reflection of the Latemar in the water make it a truly unique natural experience.
The route runs through a varied landscape of forests and meadows and includes a crossing over a suspension bridge. Near the visitor centre, a designed passageway offers insights into the history and mythology of the Latemar forest. A so-called “myth room” and a wooden xylophone highlight the special qualities of Latemar tonewood, valued in instrument making for its acoustic properties.
After the underpass, you reach a viewing platform with an unobstructed view of Lake Carezza. Information panels provide interesting facts about the lake, the surrounding forest and its wildlife.
The combination of dense woodland and open sections with views of the surrounding Dolomites accompanies this easy hike throughout.
This easy, family-friendly circular hike starts at the Paolina parking area in Carezza (1,633 m). Below the base station of the Paolina chairlift, follow trail [6], which gently descends to St. Joseph’s Church. Continue along the King Laurin road to a playground.
Here, turn left and follow a path through meadows and forest behind the Grand Hotel Carezza to the Schönblick | Bellavista road. Walk briefly along the quiet side road before a gravel path branches off to the left, leading to the suspension bridge. After crossing it, you reach the Lake Carezza parking area, from where an underpass leads directly to the lake (1,552 m).
At the lake, follow trail [10] through the Latemar forest. Along the shoreline, there are repeated views of the water and the surrounding mountain scenery. The path then continues towards the Grand Hotel Carezza, where the road is crossed. Behind the hotel, you rejoin trail [6] from the outward route and follow it back to the starting point.
