A visit to King Ortler
Circumnavigate, in seven stages, South Tyrol’s highest mountainin in Stilfserjoch National Park
Amidst the species-rich fauna and flora of the Stilfserjoch National Park, the Ortler High Mountain Trail, which is about 119.5 km long, is divided into seven daily stages, which can be walked as adventurous day tours. The ideal conditions for all experienced mountaineers are from June to September, with mild temperatures, clear visibility, and unique panoramic views of the Ortler Group’s glaciers.
Qualified mountain huts and refuges along the high-altitude Alpine route are staffed and offer hikers food and overnight accommodations.
The high-altitude Alpine circumnavigation of the Ortler Group, which gains over 3,000 m in elevation and stretches from the South Tyrolean Vinschgau/Val Venosta valley to Valtellina valley, in Lombardy, is considered one of the most challenging high-altitude routes in the entire Alpine region. You should be a specially trained hiker for these hikes. Sure-footedness, fitness and suitable equipment are basic requirements for the tour, sinceone section runs on glacier ice. We recommend taking tours with a mountain guide.
