Stroll through the “Most Beautiful Gardens in the World”
A fascinating world of plants blooms in the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle
The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are located on a sun-drenched slope above Meran/Merano. Its biodiversity makes it one of the most popular holiday destinations in South Tyrol. On 12 hectares there are 80 colorful garden landscapes, which are divided into 4 thematic worlds: the forest gardens, the sun gardens, the typical landscapes of South Tyrol and the water and terrace gardens. Scattered across the garden there are always oases of peace, such as the palm beach with deck chairs or the lake stage with deck chairs.
Besides botanical rarities, there are also animals like parrots or rabbits, artists' pavilions and a botanical underworld to explore. In some zones of the garden, you can walk in the footsteps of Empress Sissi : in effect, Trauttmansdorff was the residence of Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary during the winter of 1870 and 1889. Today the castle houses the Touriseum, which displays the story of alpine tourism. And from Sissi's favorite corner, a marble bench, you can enjoy the view of the garden. A wide panorama is offered by the viewing platform designed by architect Matteo Thun.
