Our favourite season
While there is still snow on the mountains, the first signs of spring are already budding in Bolzano/Bozen in March.
When the temperatures become milder and the days longer, Bolzano blossoms. And the people of Bolzano can hardly wait to sit at one of the tables outside on the piazza from March onwards and enjoy the delicate spring sunshine with a coffee or an aperitif. At the Obstmarkt square, the flower stalls are adorned with fresh tulips, and the Waltherplatz square in the city centre is filled with the scent of magnolia trees. In the picturesque hilly landscape of St. Magdalena/S. Maddalena around Bolzano, the grapevines are sprouting their first shoots, followed by the almond trees. They turn their buds to the sun just like the walkers turn their faces.
Next to the Talfer river, children practise gymnastics on the playgrounds of the Talfer promenade, and new lovers stroll along the embankment promenade. And only a few steps away from the lively city centre with its Laubengasse street, chic shops and inviting restaurants, you can watch nature awakening from its winter sleep: the Oswald Promenade leads from St. Magdalena to Schloss Runkelstein castle, and the Guntschna Promenade in the Gries district offers a magnificent view over the city. Cultural, musical, spring events and weekly markets enrich city life from mid-March to June.
