Panoramic journeys to the Ritten plateau
Comfortably float up to the Ritten mountain by cable car and enjoy the views on the spacious narrow-gauge railway.
Every four minutes during the day, a gondola of the Rittner Seilbahn cable car leaves the valley station in Bolzano/Bozen and floats up to Oberbozen/Soprabolzano at 1,227 m above sea level, providing emission-free public transport with views of the Bolzano valley basin, the Rosengarten massif and Schlern mountains. The cable car cabins are spacious enough to accommodate bicycles and prams. Once in Oberbozen on the sunny Ritten high plateau, guests of all ages can take a relaxing hike through the natural landscape, for example to the earth pyramids. Alternatively, hop aboard South Tyrol's last narrow-gauge railway, the Rittner Bahn railway, directly at the cable car mountain station. The Rittner Bahn railway, called “Bahnl” by locals, ran from 1907 as a rack railroad from Bolzano's Waltherplatz to the Ritten mountain. Today, the narrow-gauge railway connects the main village of Klobenstein/Collalbo with Oberbozen, in part still with historic wagons. The ride offers magnificent panoramic views of the Dolomites. Children under the age of six travel free of charge on both trains.
