A lovely winter hike that goes gently but steadily uphill. Almost the entire hike passes through snowy woodland and beautiful winter landscapes, making it wonderfully peaceful and relaxing.
The hiking trail begins in San Candido/Innichen and goes along the Sextner Bach stream towards Sesto/Sexten. After the bridge it then forks off to the right towards Wildbad. A stop at Wildbad, which has an interesting history as a former spa town with healing springs, is highly recommended. After Wildbad the trail branches off to the right to the Jorahütte. It is worth making the slight diversion (30 minutes) to visit this rustic mountain hut. From the Jorahütte you then return to the original trail and continue to the Riese Haunold Hütte mountain hut. After reaching the top you can go straight back down to the valley on the Haunold chairlift.
Through the Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal Valley to Innichen by bus, train or car. From there follow the signs to Monte Baranci/Haunold. Park the car at the parking of the chairlift.
