Hiking on Sesto's sunny side
The Carnic Ridge and the Dolomites - two mountain ranges with contrasts that attract in Sesto. Walking along the Helm/ Monte Elmo means experiencing the day with the most beautiful panoramic views. Short and also extensive hikes are offered by the Helm, which is a destination for the whole family thanks to the Helmjet cable car.

The romantic trail leads along the Sinich river to a little waterfall with a panoramic platform.

The "Flatschberg Alm" can be reached in around 1:30 from the parking lot at the Flatschhöfe. The path leads along the easy hiking trail, passing the Untere Flatschberg Alm, to the Oberen Flatschberg Alm. The Alm is known for its homemade cheese and butter and its traditional dishes. It's open in July and August.

Pleasant circular hike from Dorf Tirol along the approx. 6 km-long Algunder Waalweg (irrigation channel path) and St. Peter. The route mainly passes alongside vineyards and offers fabulous views of the Etschtal Valley and Dorf Tirol.

Over beautiful meadow slopes leads this family hike to the Bachlerhof farm. Traditional specialty of the house: The Schenner Krapfen, a typical pastry from Schenna on the menu.

This easy, family-friendly hike takes you past orchards through the mixed woodland above Dorf Tirol and Kuens along the Kuenser Waalweg, or irrigation channel path, as far as the Longfall Inn.

Along the 400-metre-long, flat themed trail by the ibex enclosure in Moos, families with children can discover the fascinating nature of the Hinterpasseier valley. They can learn through play, observe the surroundings, and test their skills at climbing stations.

The beautiful panorama is normally the reward once you've climbed up to the highest point of a tour. But not on this hike to the Astjoch ridge: here there is a viewing platform right where you start at the Zumis car park. But don't let this hold you back from the hike itself, as a wealth of wonderful routes await you, crossing wide open meadows and pastures before finally reaching the Astjoch ridge itself. High above the Lüsner valley, it boasts exceptionally wide views of the Alps, over the Pustertal valley and the Dolomites. To help you get your bearings, the names of the countless mountain ranges and peaks that you can see have been engraved into a stone slab in the ground. A large part of the hike passes through nature conservation areas, where farmed mountain pastures alternate with upland moors and little marshy valley cuttings. The route also promises a number of curiosities to enjoy on the way, such as the little Alpine chapel Pianer Kreuz.

In August 1897, Empress Elisabeth of Austria – better known as Sissi – spent an extended holiday at the historic Grand Hotel Karersee. During her stay, she took numerous excursions into the idyllic surroundings, one of which led her along the very path that now bears her name: the Elisabeth Promenade. This historic walking trail, complete with a commemorative monument, stands as a tribute to the Empress’s love of nature and hiking. Even today, it invites visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll through the stunning landscape around Lake Carezza (Karer See | Lago di Carezza).

An easy family hike to the Hiaslbauer Mountain Inn in the idyllic mountain hamlet of Videgg. Videgg is an old hamlet at an altitude of 1,500 meters. This charming hamlet consists of a little church, mountain inns and a few farms.

Through forest and over mountain meadows, this family hike leads first along a forest track, then a somewhat steep trail to Prenn and to the Sterneck Inn. The Sterneck Inn, better known as “beim Gustl”, after the landlord, is open all year round. Close to inn (next to the road towards Hochwies Inn) there is a well preserved and restored watermill, the Tonigbauern Mill from days gone by, which is well worth a visit.

The Apple Trail between Kurtatsch and Tramin is a lovingly designed thematic hiking trail that vividly showcases the importance of the apple in South Tyrol.

on personal preference. On this scenic hike through the apple orchards, you will learn
many fascinating facts about the unique characteristics of the cultivation area and
the South Tyrolean apple.

The circular hike from Lake Carezza to Franzin Alm combines breathtaking landscapes, historical sites, and local culinary delights. Passing through dense forests with stunning views of the Catinaccio, the trail leads to Franzin Alm. A special highlight is the Kaiserstein, a large rock named after Empress Elisabeth "Sissi," who once visited this place.

The Knottnkino (Knott meaning rock, kino meaning cinema) is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Vöran/Verano and is located upon the Rotstein Knott mountain. In the seats made from steel and chestnut wood designed and positioned by the artist Franz Messner from Ritten/Renon, one can enjoy unique views of the Texelgrupperange all the way to Penegal mountain and the Weißhorn peak, as though sitting comfortably in a cinema. But the film is always changing in the Knottnkino: daily, hourly, with the time of day and the changing of the season, with the climate and weather, there is always something new to see...

Which traces are we following on this route? 
Having been hugely shaped by agriculture only a few decades earlier, Gröden became an important centre for sacred art production for the Habsburg monarchy around 1900. This brought about a change in the face of St. Ulrich; workshops for sculpting, carpentry and painting sprung up, bringing prosperity along with economic success - no longer in the form of the construction of ordinary houses, but in the form of elegant villas. These villas were inspired by examples from the major cities in Europe, and tell a unique story about how Gröden reflected the industrial boom in Europe on a societal and culture level.

The Knottnkino is a lookout point. It's outfitted with thirty cinema seats, where the hikers can take a seat and enjoy the unique experience: nature as cinema. The site overlooks the whole of the Adige Valley so visitors enjoy stunning views that encompass the Texel Mountains, Mount Penegal, and even Weißhorn farther afield.

Family hike on the Schennaberg to the beautifully located Schnugger Hof Farm. The Schnugger’s large field is a great play area for children!

Experience the Forest Adventure Trail– a playful hiking path full of nature and discoveries, ideal for families. Perfect for learning about the forest’s diversity in a fun way.

This easy family hike leads on a flat and wide path to the Hirzerhütte Cabin. Beautifully located, the cabin is surrounded by alpine meadows and feature an incredible view over the Texel Range. As well as cows, alpacas also spend their summer here at the Hirzerhütte.

This family hike is particularly suitable on hot summer days, as the path runs largely through forest. The Videgg Mountain Inn is located in the mountain hamlet Videgg and awaits its guests with traditional South Tyrolean cuisine and a small petting zoo with mountain goats and mountain hares.

The hike starts at the fire station in Obertelfes/Telves di Sopra. Follow the comfortable path no. 5 for about one hour, evenly rising to the first mountain pasture, the Freundalm. Further on uphill on path no. 5 and no. 6, which lead to the mountain pasture Ochsenalm.
Alternative: reachable also by using the cable car Rosskopf Monte Cavallo

The “Legend Hike” at Lake Resia combines nature and storytelling. This family-friendly circular route starts at the sports ground in Resia, follows the Vinschgau High Trail to Klopair, and returns to the starting point.

Covering approx. 3.5 km with 160 m of elevation gain, the trail leads through varied landscapes of streams, meadows, and forest. Along the way, story stations invite you to discover the myths and legends of the region.

An easy hike, ideal for families with children – short, playful, and surrounded by stunning mountain scenery

The Labyrinth path runs below the Latemar mountain range, first through forest and then through an impressive sea of rocks, created by several rockfalls. The trail winds over, under, and between the massive, jumbled boulders, offering a varied adventure (in some sections the use of hands is required). Its labyrinth-like course makes this hike a wonderful experience for both young and old.

The Fiechteralm can be reached from Weißbrunn on foot on the forest road (suitable for prams) or on hiking trail 101. Traditional alpine dishes as well as butter, cheese made from cow and goat's milk, cream cheese, yoghurt, game and grilled specialties from the wood grill await you on the Alm (Sundays). There is a children's playground on the Alm.

Italy’s first premium winter trail is located on the Rittner Horn mountain. Along the trail, especially during the descent from the Rittner Horn peak to the Unterhorn inn, you can enjoy panoramic views of the fascinating Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Route: the winter hike begins at the mountain station of the Bergbahn Rittner Horn cable car on the Schwarzseespitze peak. Pass by the Runder Tisch viewpoint and the “Dolomitoskop” on the panoramic trail no. 19 to the Unterhorn inn. Bear left at the Feltuner Hütte mountain hut and continue following the markers up to the Rittner Horn, the highest point. Head via the Alpine pastures down to the Unterhornhaus inn and to the Schwarzenseespitze.

An alternative route for families with children: take only the smaller circular route along the panoramic trail. Walking time: approx 1 hour.

Tip: The easy way to get from Bolzano/Bozen to Soprabolzano/Oberbozen is on the Rittner Seilbahn cable car. Continue on the narrow-gauge railway to Collalbo/Klobenstein. Finally take bus 166 to the valley station of the Bergbahn Rittner Horn cable car.

Did you know that Lake Carezza has a little brother? It is the Mittersee | Lago di Mezzo – a hidden natural gem in the forest that only exists for a short time in spring (around May-June depending on the weather). During this period, a meadow transforms into a lake filled with icy meltwater at just 8°C. By July, however, it usually disappears without a trace. As long as it is there, the Mittersee | Lago di Mezzo is considered a true natural spectacle and an insider tip. The bravest even dare to jump into the refreshing water or take a little ride on the raft. This family-friendly hike not only leads to the mysterious Mittersee | Lago di Mezzo, but also to the famous Lake Carezza and the suspension bridge – with magnificent views of the Rosengarten | Catinaccio and Latemar mountains along the way.

This beautiful panoramic trail runs above the village of Welschnofen | Nova Levante through forests, meadows, and traditional farmsteads. Along the route, 9 stations provide fascinating insights into the village of Welschnofen | Nova Levante, its history and traditions, as well as the natural surroundings of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. Numerous benches invite you to pause, relax, and enjoy the fresh mountain air and tranquility.

This hike leads along the foot of the Latemar through the famous Latemar forest, known for its rich variety of valuable coniferous trees. Particularly sought-after is the so-called "tonewood," which, thanks to its special acoustic properties, is used in the construction of musical instruments. The Mitterleger | Radura di Mezzo forest glade is a perfect spot to take a relaxing break, while the Eggental | Val d'Ega mountain cinema on the Latemar meadows offers a stunning panoramic view of the Rosengarten | Catinaccio and the Rotwand | Roda di Vael peak.
