The warmest bathing lake in the Alps
The appearance of the spring sun means lake season has begun: The first swimming, sailing, pedalo boating or walking and cycling around the lake.
Even the journey to the lake is promising: Through the picturesque vineyards, the South Tyrolean Wine Road leads you to the warmest Alpine bathing lake in the province, the Lake Kalterer See. No matter from which angle you look, the largest natural body of water in South Tyrol is framed on all sides by a Mediterranean-like landscape full of vines and cypresses, historic residences and modern winery architecture. The stately Leuchtenburg castle is perched high above the lake, while surfers and pedalos enjoy the water below. In March already, but by April at the latest, you can sit outside at the lake and enjoy the spring sunshine with a good glass of wine and local delicacies. Maybe you’re daring enough to jump into the refreshing water already?
Everything around the lake is quite scenic as well. Head for a long walk along the lakeside circuit or hike from Lake Kalterer See to the picturesque Montiggler Seen lakes. A bike ride through the sea of white and pink apple blossoms with the whole family or with friends will quickly get you back into the swing of things after a long, cold winter. We thoroughly recommend the wine & cycle route through some of the most beautiful historical wine villages.
