A (Guided) Journey Through Time.
Strolling through Ortisei is like traveling through time. Historic villas from the turn of the century, once home to artists and entrepreneurs, take us back to an era when woodcarving brought prosperity to Val Gardena. Publishing houses and workshops offer a glimpse into the former wooden toy industry – and historic inns and hotels trace the valley’s transformation from a dream destination for alpinists to a popular year-round tourist hotspot.
You can embark on this journey through time in Ortisei with the help of a knowledgeable guide. The tour, offered in English, German or Italian depending on the participants, lasts 1.5 hours and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

A walk through the biodynamically cultivated vineyards reveals the harmony between nature and winemaking – accompanied by our eleven Kune-Kune pigs, the small helpers who care for the vines. The path then leads to the late Baroque Baron Longo Palace, where architecture and wine meet in perfect balance. The visit concludes with a tasting of selected wines in the atmospheric Hall of the Barons.

Knödel are not just dumplings, they are the ultimate South Tyrolean dish and no one knows this better than Franzi. At the Lechnerhof she creates them with the guests and shows them what must be included in the traditional food and dispels many culinary legends. Spinach, cheese, beetroot - different types of dumplings are prepared and, of course, tasted together. And the recipes? You can take them with you to become the king of the kitchen back home.

The guided Giro delle Cime tour is a must for skiers who want to dive deep into the winter splendour of the famous UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

The guided tour is organised by the respective ski schools in the area. Registration and payment is therefore made directly with the respective ski school.

They are now world-renowned and manage to make both sacred and contemporary art interesting. During a visit to an art workshop, you can take a look behind the scenes and learn a lot of interesting facts about the background and the long history of Val Gardena's arts and crafts.

Hiking with a view: on this winter tour, the panorama is simply captivating. The funicular takes you from Ortisei to Resciesa (2.100 m) in the Puez–Odle Nature Park. Then, a peaceful winter path leads to the Holy Cross Chapel, until finally reaching the summit cross. Let yourself be enchanted by the extraordinary panorama of the surrounding mountain peaks, before returning – by sled or by funicular - to the valley.

For two days, Welsperg Castle shines in a magical winter glow. On Saturday, 27 December, and Sunday, 28 December 2025, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the medieval castle opens its doors and invites visitors to experience a unique blend of craftsmanship, music, and winter atmosphere. A special highlight awaits guests even on the way to the castle: from the school center, shining stars light the path up to the castle, guiding the way into winter magic. Inside the heated caretaker’s room, lovingly crafted handmade pieces are presented – authentic and unique: Hannis Deco – dried flowers, Gitzl Herbert – nativity scenes, Trakofler Siegfried – woodturning, Gazzurelli Giulietta – hand-painted porcelain and floral greeting cards, Pircher Michi – wool processing with demonstrations. The musical backdrop is provided by traditional folk melodies – played on harp, guitar, and hammered dulcimer, filling the castle with a warm and atmospheric sound. Among the scent of wood, soft candlelight, and familiar melodies, an ambiance unfolds that reveals winter in all its quiet, magical beauty.A castle visit is possible – however, temperatures match those of “medieval conditions”. Warm clothing is recommended. Hot drinks are available.

The tour takes you through the picturesque and lively village, famous for its charming alleys and historic buildings. Along the way, you’ll explore the main sights and monuments and hear fascinating stories about the area. At the end of the tour, you can enjoy a cup of mulled wine at the Hotel Zum Turm and chat with others about your impressions. The tour is held in Italian.

Experience a magical Christmas hike to Jaufenburg Castle. The path is gently lit by torches and bathes the wintry landscape in a warm light. After an atmospheric guided tour of the castle, you can warm up with a cosy drink while the songs of the
Liertr 4-Xong enchant the atmosphere. The tour ends with a contemplative walk back, leaving the magic of this special night with you for a long time to come.

A walk at nightfall takes you along the idyllic landscape of the valley

Enjoy the winter sunrise!

With the cablecar Speikboden and the chairlift Sonnklar it goes up to 2.400m in the early morning, right in the middle of the Ahrntal mountains. Once arrived at the top, you have the opportunity to hike to the Sonnklar Cross, which is only 10 minutes away, or you can enjoy the first sunrays directly at the panoramic tower.

The restaurant Sonnklar and the Schüsslerhof offer you a breakfast afterwards - registration for the breakfast required!

For the first track on the slopes, it can be used the cablecar Speikboden, the conveyor belt "Tottomandl" and the chairlift Sonnklar during continuous opening hours. No special ticket is necessary for this, all regular lift tickets are valid (which can be booked online or purchased at the ticket office even on the day of the special ride). All other lifts will open at 08.30 am.

The winegrowing tradition at Neustift goes back centuries. To find out what has remained of this tradition, what winegrowing in the abbey’s vineyards involves today and the philosophy on which it is based, come on a vineyard tour. We’ll not only tell you all about Neustift winegrowing but also serve you its products. The tour of the vineyards together with the following wine tasting takes about 90 minutes in all. And lasts for longer.

Participation in the vineyard tour is only possible with prior registration.
