    Dekadenz
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs
The group Dekadenz was born out of the desire to challenge the South Tyrolean audience with home-grown cabaret.
It was the year 1980. In the small bishop's town of Bressanone, a few critical spirits around actor Georg Kaser decided that South Tyrol could definitely do with more culture than chewing cows and tinkling church bells. They founded the group Dekadenz and caused quite a stir with their first self-penned cabarets - after all, cabaret was hitherto an unknown quantity in the country. The Brixen innkeeper Burkhard Stremitzer provided a cellar in the Stufels district (and still does, free of charge!), which the group gradually turned into a cabaret cellar.
With guest appearances by cabaret artists, initially from Austria and Bavaria, as well as jazz concerts, the program expanded. The Anreiterkeller became a year-round performance venue, where cabaret and cabaret from the entire German-speaking region could be seen for the first time in South Tyrol.

Fountain in the Altenmarktgasse / via Mercato Vecchio
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

The fountain in Altenmarktgasse alley is mentioned in the 1604 city law book as one of the ten public draw wells in Brixen. It was probably originally built for the market town located outside the city walls. While the market was soon moved into the city, probably for security reasons, causing the name “forum vetus” (“old market”) to turn up as early as in 1223, the market town kept on developing and the fountain was most welcome, also seeing as the cattle market was held there once again from 1820 to 1867. The historic picture was taken in 1907. The fountain is still the same today.

There can be no art without a frame, says the art historian Louis Marin. There can be no art without a boundary that isolates it and distinguishes it as something different from the world of our everyday life. Whether it encloses a painting or a photograph, it makes no difference – it’s owing to frames that these objects become special.

In order to give prominence to your objects of art, we’ve been creating handcrafted frames in South Tyrol for many years now. But they are not just photographs, watercolor and oil paintings that are embraced by our frames. Also degrees, diplomas and certificates need a frame that would point out their importance and recall to their meaning.

For years, we’ve been conducting the ancient tradition of the South Tyrolean manufacturers of frames. We choose the finest wood and valuable materials for realization of our frames. Unique pieces conceived to give your objects of art or diplomas a custom-made suit, capable of appraising them and of giving them importance over time.

Those, who choose our handcrafted frames – choose products of highest quality, manufactured with much care and devotion. Frames that conciliate the bound of tradition and the freedom of modern artisan techniques.

    Cribs Museum
    Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

Around 1800, the prince bishop Karl Franz Lodron commissioned two large cribs depicting the story of Christ and the Redemption for the grand chapel and a room in his living quarters. Both cribs illustrate numerous scenes based on evangelical stories.  Franz Xaver Nissl and the paralytic Augustin Alois Probst, assisted by his stepbrother Benedikt, were chosen as the engravers.  Probst’s crib contains more than five thousand miniature figurines, all recounting the story of Christ, beginning with the Nativity and continuing to the Passion at the Cross.  Nissl’s crib, depicting episodes of Christmas and the Passion, was put on display during Lent Sundays in the residence chapel.  Other cribs from Brixen, Tyrol, Naples and Sicily enrich this section of the museum.

Adlerbrückengasse alley in Brixen was redesigned in 2001. In the process, the project engineer, the architect Stanislao Fierro, also designed a modern fountain located in the corner between the ramp leading up to the bridge and the stairs under the Nepomukbogen archway, reminding people of the times when the laundresses would pass underneath the archway to descend the stairs to the Eisack river.
