The Bolzano and environs region combines valleys and mountains, cities and villages, activities and relax. These charming contrasts can be observed during a stroll down the streets of the old town, through the green grocer's stalls in piazza delle Erbe, under medieval arcades or along via Museo street, where the Archeology Museum of the famous mummy Ötzi is located. Gothic churches, imposing castles, and the fascist architecture - there are many sights scattered throughout the city that are worth a visit. Soak up more contemporary art by calling at the Museion, taste the finest Alto Adige wines in one of the typical wineries or enjoy the Mediterranean spring while strolling along the promenades on the outskirts of the city. Haven't you seen the Rosengarten mountain chain yet? Take the cable car from the city to the Ritten high plateau and board the Rittner Bahnl small train: admiring the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site has never been more breathtaking. Once you arrive on the sunny plateau, follow the trail signs to the Ritten earth pyramids or walk in the footsteps of Sigmund Freud to discover his favorite places on the Ritten high plateau.
You can also let your eyes wander over the legendary Salten high plateau, where you can witness to the crocuses blooming and be warmed by the first rays of sunshine while lying under the shadow of larches. Do you love the spiritual renewal of spring? In the Trudnerhorn Nature Park, you'll come to know the southernmost and most species-rich nature park in South Tyrol. Walk through the meadows mowed by farmers and marvel at the flowering shrubs and plants, such as the "blue lupine of Altrei", which is a healthy alternative to traditional coffee. When you visit Bolzano's quaint neighbourhood, you'll see how much traditions still shape South Tyroleans' everyday life: the Sarntal valley is home to quill embroidery and many other craft businesses.
