Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal
This high valley in the Dolomites is characterised by a striking interplay of colours. The pale rock faces of the Dolomites contrasts with the lush green Alpine pastures and forests in this easternmost edge of South Tyrol.
The Tre Cime di Lavaredo/Drei Zinnen in the Sesto/Sexten Dolomites are among the best-known rock formations in the Alps and feature prominently in the history of the Alps. Access to the countryside and the people requires movement and exercise. Reaching summits and hikes along high mountain trails provide plenty of perspectives – walks, forays and strolls allow time to breathe and reflect on the important things. This green valley is a joy to discover by bicycle and the surroundings inspired Gustav Mahler during his summer holidays spent here. In fact he composed his famous ‘Song of the Earth’ in his hut in Dobbiaco/Toblach. An exciting contrast spanning athletic achievements and challenging delights.
