Hotel description
The farm Aspmayr is located 820m above sea level and you will look directly onto the city of Bozen/Bolzano and the mountainous landscape of Ritten/Renon, Jenesien/San Genesio and Sarnthein/Sarentino. There are no neighbours nearby, and no noise from streets whatsoever, but plenty of diverse gardens, fields, meadows and woods. The renovated apartement is equipped for all homely pleasures like preparing meals with local food, taking a bath or sitting in front of the wooden oven in a cosy chair and reading a book. You’re welcome to stay on our huge terrace or to take advantage of the two deckchairs in the garden. On a fireplace outside you can grill your dinner in the evenings. Our farm is geographically located in the middle of South Tyrol, therefore it is a perfect place to go or drive in all directions of the region. There are plenty of hiking, climbing, skiing, swimming and biking possibilities to reach within 20-40min by car. If you feel like easy walking, you can start right from our farmhouse. Margareth and Simon, both with academic backgrounds, run the farm since a few years with much passion and joy. Both are interested in working along natural cycles, in diversity and permacultural systems. Therefore our farm hosts not only a variety of plants and fruit trees, but also animals like chicken, pigs, sheep and cats. Since 2012 we’re also running an artist residency and art event program under the name Hotel Amazonas which invites regularly up-and-coming contemporary international artists to come and publicly share their art and practices. In the weekends in autumn we open the door for hikers and groups to have meals made with our products in our traditional Stube or on the terrace. In South Tyrol the main population is a German speaking minority, that's why the village is called Wangen (German) and Vanga (Italian). We speak German, Italian, English, and a little French. You will need a car because of the seclusion of the house. There are many convenient and reasonable car rentals in the city of Bozen/Bolzano, which is only 18km away, where there is also a very well connected train station. The closest bus station is in Wangen (distance from the house: ca. 20 min, steep path in the woods).

About the region

Enjoy both impressive views of nearby Dolomite peaks as well as a Mediterranean atmosphere. The fertile wine region of Bolzano and Environs extends from Sarntal valley via the state capital Bolzano, to Salorno/Salurn. Located at between 200 and 3,000 m above sea level, possibilities for an active holiday abound throughout the year. Holidays in Bolzano and Environs are a feast for the senses.

In the expansive southern valley, visitors can marvel at vineyards and castles, as well as apple orchards and idyllic villages. Further north, near the state capital, admire traditional mountain farms and craggy Alpine peaks. Outstanding local wines and the mouth-watering flavours and aromas of local specialities, such as asparagus and chestnuts, whet the appetite. Both peace and a flair for the dramatic are on hand in Bolzano and Environs. South Tyrol/Südtirol’s capital is a vibrant city bustling with activity, whilst nearby isolated mountain villages and quiet tributary valleys offer respite. The characteristic sounds of the mingling of Italian and German fill the streets, whilst music, theater and festivals are a feast for the eyes and ears. You’ll be sure to return home with unforgettable memories like swimming in the warm Kalterer See lake, the crisp crunch of snow under your skis, or the silence of relaxing with friends over a glass of wine and enjoying the best food South Tyrol has to offer.
