Designed as an amateur sporting event, the DYNAFIT Vinschgau Cup with its demanding routes is a challenge for passionate and experienced ski tourers. On February 28, as part of Sexten Mountain & Music, the Singa Quartettl Sexten will perform at Luis Alm. The ensemble presents traditional and modern folk music from the region, providing an authentic musical evening in a welcoming atmosphere.

The Gsiesertal Lauf is one of the best-known and best-loved ski marathons in the entire Alpine region. It is the second largest ski marathon in Italy, and is held on the 3rd weekend in February in the Val Casies Valley, South Tyrol (Italy). Ever since it was first held back in 1984, this race has never once been cancelled due to weather conditions. In 2021, the event was cancelled for reasons of force majeure (Corona). The event attracts a great deal of international skiers, with a good forty nations at the starting line every year and a great many World and Olympic Champions listed on the roll of honour. In 2026, it will take place at the same time as the ‘Milan-Cortina Olympics’. This is a unique opportunity for all participants to experience some Olympic competitions either in the neighbouring Antholz Valley or in Cortina (distance 35 km) in addition to their own sporting activities. The race runs along two routes, one of 30 km and one of 42 km; the classic race is held on Saturday and the skating race on Sunday. The amateur “Just for Fun” group. with none of the stress of rankings and timekeeping, is also extremely popular, and the programme of events also includes the “Gsiesertal KIDS Run” on Saturday.

A unique evening experience on the illuminated cross-country loop Experience the magic of a winter night under the full moon: a ski loop of the cross-country skiing centre remains open after sunset, lit by torches and soft lights. Here is the reason why you should get up early during your ski holiday: On five days in March and April (Wednesdays) three ski lifts open alternately and exclusively at 7:00 am. The show, a reinterpretation of Sergei Prokofiev's famous musical fairy tale, combines acting, narration and music, with iconic sets by Emanuele Luzzat. Three bumbling actors try to tell the fairy tale... but without having studied it! Through comic gags, improvisation and the help of the audience, the children become an active part of the story, guided by the narrating voice of the “Great Narrator” – none other than Dario Fo, whose 100th birthday is being celebrated this year. The Plätzwiese high plateau in the Pragser Tal Valley is a high plateau at 2000 m. From the parking area, you can already see two of the three possible ski touring destinations: the Picco di Vallandro 2839 m and the Pyramid (Crepe di Val Chiara 2711 m). The third ski tour, right in the heart of the Hohe Gaisl, the Pinscharte at 2565 m, can only be glimpsed from the refuge Plätzwiesenhütte. 20 kilometres, 2,000 metres of elevation gain – a unique mountain running and ski touring race from Bolzano/Bozen to the Rittner Horn. On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the 7th edition of the Horn Attacke will take place – a spectacular duathlon combining running and ski mountaineering on the Ritten Plateau. Within just a few years, the Horn Attacke has become a key event in both the Italian and international mountain sports calendar. The legendary course is as demanding as it is impressive: over 20 kilometres, participants conquer 2,000 metres of altitude gain, divided between a running and a ski touring section. The race starts right in the centre of Bolzano/Bozen. From there, the route follows hiking trail no. 6 up to Oberbozen and continues to Pemmern, where the transition zone is located. Here, athletes switch from running shoes to touring skis and tackle the final 7 kilometres to the finish line at the Rittner Horn (2,260 m). The goal of the day is clear – and already announced in the event’s name: the “attack” on the Rittner Horn. The duathlon is much more than a niche race – it’s a true adventure for all mountain sports enthusiasts. Participation is open to both individual athletes and relay teams. Those who prefer to share the challenge can register as a two- or three-person team: Two-person relay: athlete 1 runs from Bolzano/Bozen to Pemmern, athlete 2 completes the ski touring section. Three-person relay: athlete 1 runs to Oberbozen, athlete 2 to Pemmern, and Athlete 3 takes on the ski ascent to the Rittner Horn. For tireless adventurers, there’s also the original “Mountaineer” version: the ski touring equipment is carried from the start in Bolzano all the way to the transition in Pemmern, and the running gear must be taken along to the finish – an extra endurance challenge for true mountain athletes. The Merano Ski Club and the Merano 2000 ski area have revived an old tradition and bid farewell to winter with music, fun and good spirits. It is run in teams of three in different categories. Three racers, connected by a rope, master a simple giant slalom route, to reach the finishing line together. Each participant may only ride once per category. The Watles ski area is once again taking a trip back in time this year, with a nostalgic atmosphere throughout the entire ski area. In March, when winter is loudly driven out every year in the tradition-conscious Upper Vinschgau Valley and the entire region is already being spoiled by the sun again, friends of traditional skiing meet at the Watles adventure mountain for a very special event. On this day, fans of authentic skiing fun take to the slopes in suits and ski outfits from the era of Luis Trenker, such as Norwegian dresses or Sarner jackets and hats, with the women wearing skirts and classic wooden walking sticks. They ski down the slopes on original wooden skis. And at the exuberant celebration afterwards, with regional specialities (food like in the old days), there is a waltz in the ski hut instead of après-ski.
