From April 4 to 6, 2025, Monte Cavallo will host the third edition of the children's ski race “SKIDS - The Snow Festival.” Children and young people from all over Europe will gather here to compete in ski races on the same mountain that hosted the Ski World Cup in the 1980s. In addition to the races on the slopes, a rich program of games and entertainment is planned, not only on the snow. While the young participants engage in sporting competitions, coaches and parents will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and deepen their knowledge of skiing during discussion sessions and conferences. Participants will enjoy three days full of fun and entertainment, both on Monte Cavallo and in the town of Vipiteno. The 37th Bolzano Film Festival Bozen (12 - 21 April 2024) will officially kick off on Friday 12 April 2024 with a screening of the 1919 silent film Blind Husbands by Erich von Stroheim. On the opening evening, at the same time in the three cinemas of the Filmclub, Stroheim's directorial debut film will be screened in a restored and viralised version by the Österreichische Filmmuseum in Vienna and, for the first time in Italy, with live musical accompaniment thanks to the collaboration with the Südtirol Jazz Festival Alto Adige. Dedicated to the mountain guide Sepp Innerkofler, Blind Husbands was filmed at Universal Studios with a backdrop of the Dolomites of Cortina d'Ampezzo and was a great success at the time. Closing the festival on Saturday 21 April will be Linda and the Chicken, a small animated masterpiece directed by Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach, which won Best Film at the Annecy Animation Festival.

Gala, Kanzi, Fuji, Red Delicious – these illustrious names represent four of the total of 18 varieties of apple that flourish in the sunny orchards tended by South Tyrol's farmers. Crisp, juicy and fresh, famed as a vitamin bomb and popular well beyond the borders of the region, there is plenty to learn about the South Tyrolean apple. Did you know, for example, that the apple originally came from Kazakhstan? Or that one in three of all organic apples harvested in Europe comes from South Tyrol? Together with apple grower Christine we set out on a journey of discovery through the local apple orchards. Our charming and knowledgeable guide shares plenty of interesting and curious facts about the apple growing industry in South Tyrol, about organic and integrated cultivation, the different varieties, the ingenious methods of naturally-derived plant protection and the protected designation of geographical origin. During the subsequent tasting of the different apple varieties participants can enjoy talking shop about the apples’ flavours and textures and their personal favourites. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions of our expert.

And quickly notice how the soothing silence in us activates new vitality and enables our soul to relax. The arrival of this beautiful time of year is traditionally celebrated in Schenna with a big Spring Festival run by the Voluntary Fire Brigade. All ages get together in the covered Raiffeisenplatz in the centre of the village to celebrate, dance and have a fun time. In early April, with the spectacular blossom of the apple trees, the Lana Golf Club will kick off the new season of tournaments. This guided tour into the world of bees and beekeepers provides the answers to questions like these and more. Expert Christian Kessler from the Partschins Beekeeping Association give an overview of the lives of these hard-working little pollinators, show how they work in the open beehive and the amazing social behaviour of bees, and explain how honey gets from the flower to a jar with the “Made in South Tyrol” brand label on it. Equipped with the right protective clothing, participants can marvel at and literally get to grips with the inner life of the bee hive at close quarters. The guided tour also explains the role that the beekeeper plays, what exactly he does and how his activities must be strictly aligned to the course of the bees’ year. Afterwards, participants can discover the outstanding quality of South Tyrolean honey for themselves by tasting various types of honey.

One way is the Jacobson relaxation technique, known as progressive muscle relaxation. The technique is an easy and quickly learned method that helps to relieve tension brought about by stress and overexertion. Untreated, under certain circumstances these tensions can result in back, muscle and head pains, stomach and bowel problems and a range of mental stress symptoms such as sleep and anxiety disorders, depression and even burnout. The Jacobson Method helps us learn to prevent such problems and better deal with damage that has already been done. Relaxation exercises have other benefits too: the body secretes fewer stress hormones, breathing becomes more even, the blood pressure falls and the heart beats more steadily. And the psyche benefits too: physical tensions are reduced and the body regains its natural equilibrium, thus increasing mental wellbeing. Stresses and strains brought about by anxiety, worries and pain diminish.
