    Altrei/Anterivo

Starting from the village center on Rathausplatz, where you will find the various facilities for all walks of life, walk along Gottschalkstrasse to Hof am Orth. This was formerly Altreis' court, which was allowed to decide about everything except life and death. Now go on to the Lochmannhöfe. Sitting on the cozy “bench” you can let your gaze wander over the Cembra valley, Monte Bondone and the Lagorai group. Via "Trotn" and Kreuzackerstr. Follow the marker 5 to get to the Pichl location. It is worth taking a look at Altreis unique roof landscape and the Lagorai mountain range. The path now leads you via Prof.-Alois-Zwerger-Straße to the old Brechelofen. Not so long ago the village women roasted and crushed their flax plants here, from which flax hair was then obtained for linen weaving. You can return to the starting point of the hike via Kanonikus-Michael-Gamper-Straße, from which you can also see the Guggal fraction.

    Altrei tour
    Altrei/Anterivo

The Altrei tour will take you through extensive larch meadows - the result of clearing land of all the other species of trees while still preserving the larches, thus leading to a low-density population of trees which are then tended and cared for. You continue along the Legend and Breathing Trail to the Fraul-Alm and then to the "Kugelets Mösl." The tour then continues through the Guggal neighborhood and back to the starting-point in the village square. There are several convenient rest-stops with refreshment options along the way – plus the magnificent scenery always at your side.

Anterivo Trail of Legends (Sagenweg Altrei)
    Altrei/Anterivo

Above Anterivo/Altrei, a small mountain town on South Tyrol’s language border, some mythical figures are making trouble for some time. Through oral transfer, people of Anterivo have succeeded in preserving their legends until the present day. The local library has collected and written down the legends with children of Anterivo. The primary school staff and pupils used this as a chance to develop the "Trail of Legends".

The hiking trail, which is about 2 km long, starts at the "Lärchenheim" and passes massive larch trees and a partly dense forest until it reaches the sports centre "Ebnerrast".

Winter Hike to the Timmelsalm alp
Moos in Passeier/Moso in Passiria, Meran/Merano and environs
The newly built Timmelsalm is located in the middle of a wide depression above the tree line, nestled between numerous three-thousand-metre peaks. The beautiful alpine pasture with its cozy terrace offers nature lovers a fantastic view of the Ötztal mountain giants. The ascents to the Hofmannspitze, Müllerhütte, Wilden Freiger and Becherhaus also lead directly past the alpine pasture. The Timmelsalm is one of the so-called "Gerichtsalmen" of the Passeier Valley. This is where the people of Passiria are allowed to bring their animals to spend the summer in the mountains. In early summer, sheep and goats are the first to arrive, followed by milking cows for the alpine pasture and galt cattle, i.e. young cows or those that do not produce milk.

From Gossensass/Colle Isarco to the Straßberg ruin
    Brenner/Brennero, Sterzing/Vipiteno and environs

Short and easy family hike from Gossensass/Colle Isarco to ruins of Straßberg/Castel Strada near Ried/Novale. The castle is located on a hill on the ancient Brenner/Brennero road. At the beginning the castle was equipped with two drawbridges and a wall, but to date there are only some parts, such as sections of the walls, the battlements and the entrance tower preserved.
The ruin is privately owned and can only be visited from the outside.

This short and easy hike is perfect for families and takes you from Gossensass to the impressive ruins of Castel Straßberg. Built around 1200, the castle is located on a hill ridge at Ried, once touched by the Brenner Pass route. Today, the castle's gate tower, the surrounding walls, and the keep are still visible. Over the centuries, the castle was owned by several powerful noble families, including the Landsknecht leader Georg von Frundsberg.

The hike starts at the village square in Gossensass. From there, head north and turn right into the lane "Alte Postgasse". The path ascends gently eastwards, passing by the Hotel Gudrun. After the underpass beneath the highway, turn right at the Hubertushof (yellow building) and enter the forest. Follow the forest trail to reach the "Herrengarten," then the old mill, and finally the ruins of Castle Straßberg. Since the castle is privately owned, it can only be viewed from the outside.

For the return, retrace your steps to the mill and take a forest road that leads to the Brenner State Road, bringing you back to Gossensass. If you'd like, you can continue the hike all the way to Sterzing.

A wonderful, short hike with a touch of history, ideal for families and anyone looking for an easy yet rewarding walk.
