The fairytale lake of the Dolomites, Lake Carezza (Karer See | Lago di Carezza), is a colorful mountain lake where, according to legend, a water nymph is said to reside. In its crystal-clear waters, the Dolomite giants Latemar and Rosengarten are reflected in the mornings and evenings - a sight that amazes many visitors. For this reason, the lake is also called "Lec de Ergobando" - rainbow lake.
Measuring 300 meters in length and 140 meters in width, Lake Carezza lies at an altitude of 1,520 meters beneath the Latemar massif, at the edge of the Latemar Forest in the municipality of Welschnofen | Nova Levante, near the village of Karersee | Carezza in the Eggental valley. As a protected natural monument, it is fed by underground springs from the Latemar, which means its size and depth vary significantly depending on the season and weather. The greatest recorded depth is 22 meters.
The long circular trail leads from Lake Carezza over the suspension bridge toward the holiday settlement and then through idyllic woodland back to the starting point at the lake. This forest area, known as the Latemar forest, is famous for its high-quality spruce trees, which are prized both as construction timber and for instrument making, particularly for string instruments. Besides Lake Carezza itself, the suspension bridge - built in 2018 as a connection to the Karersee | Carezza settlement - is another special highlight for visitors.

Lake Carezza (Karer See | Lago di Carezza) in the Eggental Valley is famous for its extraordinary colors and is therefore also called “Lec de Ergobando” – the Rainbow Lake. The Lazaun high plateau is marked by the power of the glacier, for example, by an active block glacier and a high moor. You will find very distinctive Alpine flora here, including the dwarf willow (Salix herbacea), the smallest tree in the world. With any luck, the attentive observer will also be treated to rare sightings of local fauna. Numerous marmots live up here in addition to rock partridge and snow grouse.
Easy circular route on the trail of winegrowing in Dorf Tirol/Tirolo. This leisurely walk through the vineyards above the roofs of Meran/Merano starts at the tourist information office.
A lovely winter hike that goes gently but steadily uphill. Almost the entire hike passes through snowy woodland and beautiful winter landscapes, making it wonderfully peaceful and relaxing.
A special adventure at Meran 2000 is the idyllic loop trail that runs from either Falzeben or Piffing to Kratzbergersee Lake. The small mountain lake, which is easily accessible to families with children, offers a magnificent view of the neighbouring Sarntal Valley. Hikers can cool tired feet in the cold water.

Archaeological trail A5 begins in the village of Certosa/Karthaus where you can visit the cloister of the former Carthusian monastery. It then leads into the Penaud valley as far as the area known as “Karl Sumperer”. From here, you can view virtually the entire valley, with a panoramic view to the summits of the Similaun group of mountains. Arriving at Niederjöchl shortly after, you will have a magnificent view of Vinschgau valley, of the ice-capped peaks of the Cevedale and of the Martelltal valley. This is followed by the long descent to Sankt Martin am Kofel and its pilgrimage church. From here, it’s only a few minutes by cable car to Laces/Latsch.
The highlight of this winter hike are the views of the wonderful peaks of the Sexten Dolomites which can be enjoyed all the way along the hike. The whole area is also part of the Drei Zinnen Nature Park and is therefore a place of special beauty and tranquillity, especially in winter. The destination is the Dreischusterhütte mountain hut, where you can fortify yourself for the return route. The hut is open from Christmas to the end of March. The hike itself is relatively easy, a pleasant walk right across the Innerfeldtal valley.
This circular hike leads from the Kaiserstein parking lot through forest and alpine meadows up to the Christomannos Monument at the Rosengarten. The monument, 2.70 meters tall and weighing 350 kg, was erected in honor of Theodor Christomannos (1854–1911). He is considered a pioneer of tourism in South Tyrol and was particularly committed to expanding the region’s transport network. Among other things, he played a leading role in the construction of the Great Dolomites Road (Bolzano–Cortina–Dobbiaco), the Vinschgau railway, and the Grand Hotel at the Karer Pass. Shortly after his death, the impressive monument at the foot of the Rosengarten was built in his memory – overlooking the majestic Latemar, which makes this place a truly special destination.
The Knottnkino (Knott meaning rock, kino meaning cinema) is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Vöran/Verano and is located upon the Rotstein Knott mountain. In the seats made from steel and chestnut wood designed and positioned by the artist Franz Messner from Ritten/Renon, one can enjoy unique views of the Texelgrupperange all the way to Penegal mountain and the Weißhorn peak, as though sitting comfortably in a cinema. But the film is always changing in the Knottnkino: daily, hourly, with the time of day and the changing of the season, with the climate and weather, there is always something new to see...

The untouched Lagauntal Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in South Tyrol. The trail up to the former Heilbronn hut and the Tascheljöchl provide a breathtaking long-distance view of numerous 3000m-peaks. On the way to Berglalm Mountain Hut, we pass through idyllic high mountain terrain with expansive larch forests.
Extremely enjoyable excursion which, from San Cassiano/Piz Sorega, crosses the breathtaking meadows of Pralongiá, renowned for their profusion of flowers.The panorama here is spectacular, stretching from the Lavarela to the Lagazuoi summits, from the Marmolada to the Grup dl Sela, from Puez to Pütia and looking to the north, right up to the glaciers of the Central Alps on their border with Austria.
Alpine hike to the one-time highest grain farm in Europe the Finailhof farm (1,973 m).
The Ütia Gardenacia hut lies at the eastern end of the Nature Park Puez-Odle over the village of La Villa, in the middle of green meadows dotted with larches. It offers a spectacular view over the villages of Alta Badia and its mountains, such as the Sas dla Crusc, Lavarela and Conturines, while in the distance the Tofane, the Pelmo, the Civetta and the Marmolada can be discerned.
Leaving the town towards west, shortly before the gas station, turn right and go up until the Hotel "Schopfenhof". From there go straight ahead and you will pass several farms until arriving to Dobbiaco/Toblach. Return by bus or train. Otherwise you can also return on foot, starting from the train station in "Neutoblach" and following the bike route along the rails to San Candido/Innichen.
This easy, family-friendly hike passes through the orchards of Dorf Tirol/Tirolo and is a real highlight during the apple blossom season!
An altidude hike from Passo Valparola to San Cassiano under the Setsas peak and to the Pralongiá plateau. Admire impressive views over the entire Alta Badia mountains with a close-up of the Lagazuoi top and the majestic peaks of Lavarela and Conturines. If you wish to extend your itinerary, you can even ascend the Setsas mountain.
Excursion of average difficulty in the middle of a rough and untouched nature bring you to the "Kaserhütte" hut.
Starting point: Pragser Wildsee lake (1.494 m) Highest point: Kaserhütte hut (1.937 m)
The starting point is the Gossensass parking lot in the town center at Ibsen Square (1,098 m). From Ibsen Square, the trail leads north to the Raiffeisen Bank, where you cross the pedestrian crossing to reach the "Alte Postgasse" Alley. Then, head east, climbing uphill, passing the Aparthotel Pichler on the left. At the intersection, you will find the trail signs, and from there, Trail No. 22 leads up to the mountain hut Hühnerspielhütte (1,868 m).
Variant:
From Sterzing, drive on the state road towards Brenner. After about 4 km, you will reach the village of Gossensass. Continue on the road for another 3 km until you reach a sharp S-curve (first a right turn, then a left turn). In the left curve, you will find an exit for the highway on the right, and right next to it, a narrow asphalted road. Follow this road for about 800 m to reach the DAX parking lot. From there, continue on foot along a forest road to the hut.
On beautiful forest and alpine trails, you reach the Waltherplatz | Piazza Walther mountain cinema at the foot of the Rosengarten | Catinaccio. Surrounded by idyllic alpine meadows, you can enjoy the phenomenal view of countless mountain peaks such as Latemar, Schwarzhorn | Corno Nero, Weißhorn | Corno Bianco, Ortler | Ortles, the Stubai and Zillertal Alps (Austria), Tschafon | Monte Ciavone and Schlern | Sciliar, which more than make up for the partly steep ascent.
The easy fun trail leads to the top of the Astjoch (also known as Burgstall) and to the eastern flank of the Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm.
