The circular hike begins at the volunteer fire department building in the center of Villabassa. From here, well-marked trail number 46 leads you through picturesque landscapes, passing meadows, forests, and accompanied by the soothing sounds of nature.

Follow the path to the historic Sinna Mihle, an old mill that still tells the story of life and work in the Puster Valley long ago. At this charming spot, turn right onto the Lanaweg, which takes you on a gentle, flat stretch for about 1.5 kilometers towards Toblach.

Along this section, you can enjoy the peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere – far from the hustle and bustle, accompanied only by the rustling of leaves and birdsong.

The return route leads you through the idyllic Langwiesn– wide, green meadows with open views of the surrounding mountains – back to Villabassa. The trail then closes the loop, bringing you back to your starting point at the volunteer fire department.

This easy yet varied hike is perfect for experiencing the scenic diversity and tranquil beauty of the region in a short time.

The thematic trail “Power Spots and Forest Therapy – Balance” invites you to immerse yourself in a special world where humans and nature harmoniously connect. The hike starts a little away from the volunteer fire brigade building, following the Rienzstraße up to the Kasbachergraben. From there, you follow well-marked paths along the scenic Tschachenweg to the St. Magdalena im Moos Church, a peaceful spot perfect for reflection and rest.

The trail then descends back to Niederdorf, passing through the artisan zone, before making a wide loop towards Maistatt and finally returning to Niederdorf.

Along the way, thoughtfully designed stations invite you to meditate and feel the healing energy of nature on body and mind. The ancient knowledge of geomancy – the study of interactions between cosmic, earthly, and human energies – helps you discover places of special power. These power spots are areas with increased earth radiation that promote well-being, inner calm, and renewed strength.

Another key aspect of the trail is forest bathing: by mindfully spending time in nature, you create a deep connection that strengthens your immune system, calms the mind, and brings inner peace.

Health and well-being have a long tradition in Niederdorf, as evidenced by the Kneipp facility established in the village. The meditation trail “Power Spots and Forest Therapy” offers a valuable addition that can serve as a spiritual and healing source for many people, providing a conscious alternative to the often consumer-driven lifestyle of today and opening the eyes to the simple yet powerful force of nature.

Extremely enjoyable excursion which, from San Cassiano/Piz Sorega, crosses the breathtaking meadows of Pralongiá, renowned for their profusion of flowers.The panorama here is spectacular, stretching from the Lavarela to the Lagazuoi summits, from the Marmolada to the Grup dl Sela, from Puez to Pütia and looking to the north, right up to the glaciers of the Central Alps on their border with Austria.

The path follows the edge of the forest towards the picturesque Moos Chapel, offering constant views of the charming village and the majestic backdrop of the Pragser Dolomites. Upon reaching the small Gothic chapel of St. Magdalena im Moos, also known as the "Moos Chapel," inviting benches welcome you to rest and reflect – a perfect spot to soak in the peaceful atmosphere and the stunning natural surroundings.

The return route leads gently back along a paved road, surrounded by expansive fields, returning to the village – a lovely opportunity to savor the tranquility of nature once more.

The fairytale lake of the Dolomites, Lake Carezza (Karer See | Lago di Carezza), is a colorful mountain lake where, according to legend, a water nymph is said to reside. In its crystal-clear waters, the Dolomite giants Latemar and Rosengarten are reflected in the mornings and evenings - a sight that amazes many visitors. For this reason, the lake is also called "Lec de Ergobando" - rainbow lake.
Measuring 300 meters in length and 140 meters in width, Lake Carezza lies at an altitude of 1,520 meters beneath the Latemar massif, at the edge of the Latemar Forest in the municipality of Welschnofen | Nova Levante, near the village of Karersee | Carezza in the Eggental valley. As a protected natural monument, it is fed by underground springs from the Latemar, which means its size and depth vary significantly depending on the season and weather. The greatest recorded depth is 22 meters.

The long circular trail leads from Lake Carezza over the suspension bridge toward the holiday settlement and then through idyllic woodland back to the starting point at the lake. This forest area, known as the Latemar forest, is famous for its high-quality spruce trees, which are prized both as construction timber and for instrument making, particularly for string instruments. Besides Lake Carezza itself, the suspension bridge - built in 2018 as a connection to the Karersee | Carezza settlement - is another special highlight for visitors.

As a protected natural monument, Lake Carezza deserves special respect. It is important to observe the designated protection boundaries so that the beauty of this unique mountain lake can be preserved for future generations.

The walk begins in the center of Villabassa, heading toward the Spitalkirche (Church). From there, you follow Rienzstraße, which runs alongside the river, accompanied by the soothing sound of flowing water.

After a short and pleasant walk, you reach the small and well-kept mini zoo at "Camping Olympia", where various animals can be observed up close – a special highlight, especially for families with children.

After crossing the main road and a brief uphill section, you are rewarded with a view of the historic Maistatt Bath. This charming building reflects the region’s long tradition of healing springs. Just behind it, you’ll find a drinking fountain still in use today – a great spot to pause and refresh.

The return path leads gently downhill, taking you back to the village through open fields and peaceful natural surroundings. This circular route is perfect for exploring the area at a relaxed pace, with a mix of nature, animals, and local history.

Embark on a four-hour hike from Colfosco to Passo Gardena, and you will find yourself in the footsteps of the Salvan, the mythical little man of the forest who lived on the border with the Val Gardena.

A pleasant winter walk to relax and simply enjoy life in a quite area on Seiser Alm. This route offers  a breathtaking view of the Schlern/Sciliar mountain, almost within hand’s reach from the Spitzbühl, and leads onwards over endless snow-covered alpine meadows back to the starting point.

This hike starts in Gasteig/Casateia and follows the snowy Mareiter Bach stream all the way to Mareit/Mareta. Along the way, you pass the village of Stange/Stanghe, which can also be used as an alternative starting point to shorten the tour. Especially on warm, sunny days, the icicles and frozen water surfaces offer an impressive natural spectacle.

The walk starts in Niederdorf at Von-Kurz-Platz (main square). The route initially leads gently uphill along well-marked paths towards Aufkirchen, a small village with traditional buildings and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The trail is well-maintained throughout and is ideal for families or leisurely hikers. In Aufkirchen, you reach the highest point of the walk at 1,300 meters. This is a great spot to take a short break and enjoy the view of the South Tyrolean mountains.

From there, the trail gently descends back to Niederdorf, forming a circular route. The entire walk takes about two hours and offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature. It's a perfect way to explore the region without too much effort.

The Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites on account of its distinctive natural features. The unique, legendary atmosphere of Fanes, the flora and fauna of the Dolomites and the stunning scenery all make this hike an unforgettable experience.
From our area, Fanes is reachable from Sciaré/San Cassiano.

The walk begins in Niederdorf/Villabassa at Von Kurz Square. From there, it follows well-marked paths towards Aufkirchen/Santa Maria, an idyllic village with traditional houses and magnificent panoramic views. The highest point of the hike is at 1,300 meters, where you can take a break to enjoy the impressive view of the South Tyrolean mountain landscape.

There is now an alternative route for the way back: instead of returning directly to Niederdorf/Villabassa, the path leads via Toblach/Dobbiaco. Here you follow route no. 11B, which descends slightly and runs through forests and meadows. Toblach/Dobbiaco is ideal for a short stopover before returning to Niederdorf/Villabassa via the same route or by public transport. This variant extends the hike and offers additional scenic variety.

The Dolomites High Route no. 2 was among the first of 10 “official” Dolomites High Routes to be described and signposted. The High Route is also known as the "way of the legends" as it passes through Dolomites mountains and valleys rich in myths and legends: for example the Odle group and the Sella group with the legends of the Ladin people or Feltre with the tales of ogres and witches. The multi-day excursion can be completed in several stages going from north to south. Starting point is Bressanone/Brixen, the quaint town of South Tyrol, rich in history. Arrival is the town of Feltre with the river Piave, witness of some of the tragic events of World War I. The route crosses three provinces, Bolzano, Trento and Belluno and 10 mountain groups (Plose, Pütia/Peitlerkofel, Odle/Geisler, Puez, Sella, Padon, Marmolada, Bocche, Pala, Feltre group), among which Plose, Padon and the Lusia-Bocche group are not part of the Dolomites. The Dolomites High Route no. 2 offers a nice variety of hiking and climbing and the chance to discover art and culture. So, for example, it is worth a visit the city of Bressanone with its museums and works of art and, not to forget, the many historical sites of World War I that you meet along the way.

The Ütia Gardenacia hut lies at the eastern end of the Nature Park Puez-Odle over the village of La Villa, in the middle of green meadows dotted with larches. It offers a spectacular view over the villages of Alta Badia and its mountains, such as the Sas dla Crusc, Lavarela and Conturines, while in the distance the Tofane, the Pelmo, the Civetta and the Marmolada can be discerned.

Lake Carezza (Karer See | Lago di Carezza) in the Eggental Valley is famous for its extraordinary colors and is therefore also called “Lec de Ergobando” – the Rainbow Lake. This pleasant circular hike begins in Niederdorf and follows the peaceful Rienz River, where the gentle murmur of the water and the calm valley landscape create an inviting start. At Neunhäusern, a gradual ascent takes you through meadows and light woodland up to Aufkirchen – a charming hamlet with traditional farms and panoramic views of the Dolomites.

From there, the route descends gently toward Toblach along a quiet road, offering open views of the Upper Puster Valley and the surrounding peaks. The return to Niederdorf is an easy walk along a flat, paved road, perfect for a leisurely finish.

The hike begins in the charming village center of Niederdorf, right next to the Spitalkirche (Church). From here, you ascend to the peaceful Annakapelle, a perfect spot for a brief moment of reflection. Continuing on, you follow Von-Kurz Street uphill to Eggerberg, where the surrounding landscape gradually unfolds before you.

Soon, you’ll reach the lookout tower, offering a spectacular view of the majestic Dolomites, the distinctive Cristallo, and the Pragser Dolomites — a breathtaking panorama for every hiker.

From the lookout, the trail gently descends along the Castle Path, leading you directly to the historic Welsperg Castle. The castle exudes a romantic, knightly atmosphere and provides a wonderful opportunity to rest and soak in the special ambiance of the place.

This varied hike winds through forests and meadows, delighting with constantly changing, stunning views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Be sure to bring your own provisions to fully enjoy the tour at your leisure.

From Obertelfes/Telves di Sopra (1,258 m, at the village fountain with several signposts), follow the signs for “Telfer Almen” or “Freundalm”. First, take the narrow farm road to Kappelerhof (1,353 m), then continue on a wide, cleared hiking and sledding path through meadows and forest with a moderate ascent northwestwards. Finally, cross open meadows to reach Freundalm alpine hut (approx. 1,720 m). The return follows the same route and can be done either on foot or by sled.

An altidude hike from Passo Valparola to San Cassiano under the Setsas peak and to the Pralongiá plateau. Admire impressive views over the entire Alta Badia mountains with a close-up of the Lagazuoi top and the majestic peaks of Lavarela and Conturines. If you wish to extend your itinerary, you can even ascend the Setsas mountain.

A pleasant and relaxing walk, on the plateau above Corvara, through flowering meadows and shady woods, with a stunnig view.

This easy and captivating hike starts in the picturesque center of Niederdorf and takes you through charming meadows and forests toward Toblach. After about an hour and a half, you’ll reach the famous composer’s hut of Gustav Mahler, a place full of inspiration where the legendary composer created parts of his 9th and 10th symphonies.

Visiting this historic retreat offers a fascinating insight into Mahler’s creative period and his deep connection to the stunning natural surroundings. Right next door, the Toblach Wildlife Park invites you to observe native animals in their natural habitat – a special experience for visitors of all ages.

The return journey can be made along the same idyllic path or via the scenic route through Altschluderbach before returning to Niederdorf.

This hike is a perfect blend of nature enjoyment and cultural discovery – ideal for those who love both music and the great outdoors.

The starting point is the Gossensass parking lot in the town center at Ibsen Square (1,098 m). From Ibsen Square, the trail leads north to the Raiffeisen Bank, where you cross the pedestrian crossing to reach the "Alte Postgasse" Alley. Then, head east, climbing uphill, passing the Aparthotel Pichler on the left. At the intersection, you will find the trail signs, and from there, Trail No. 22 leads up to the mountain hut Hühnerspielhütte (1,868 m).

Variant:
From Sterzing, drive on the state road towards Brenner. After about 4 km, you will reach the village of Gossensass. Continue on the road for another 3 km until you reach a sharp S-curve (first a right turn, then a left turn). In the left curve, you will find an exit for the highway on the right, and right next to it, a narrow asphalted road. Follow this road for about 800 m to reach the DAX parking lot. From there, continue on foot along a forest road to the hut.

From Maiern/Masseria, behind the Hotel Schneeberg (1,400 m), follow the signs for “Untere Gewingesalm”: First head south across the open valley floor to the edge of the forest, then ascend via a wide, groomed forest road in several switchbacks through wooded slopes. The Untere Gewingesalm alpine hut (1,782 m) is located at the tree line.
Return along the same route – either on foot or by toboggan.

Starting from the main square in Niederdorf, this peaceful winter hike follows trail no. 27 toward Maistatt. The partly paved path leads you through a picturesque winter landscape – past snowy meadows, quiet fields, and old wooden fences frosted with ice.

Along the way, you’ll enjoy refreshing mountain air and lovely views of the surrounding peaks. After passing Maistatt, the route continues on to Altschluderbach, a charming little village nestled at the foot of the Dolomites. From there, the trail winds through light woodland with glimpses of the majestic Dolomite peaks, eventually reaching the serene banks of the Rienz River.

You can return along the same trail or take a convenient train or bus back to Niederdorf.

The hike begins at the train station building of Villabassa and takes you past the historic spa town of Bad Maistatt, a place rich in history and natural healing springs. From there, you continue to the charming Toblach Lake, whose shores invite you to pause, relax, and marvel at the surroundings.

Around the lake winds an engaging nature discovery trail with eleven thoughtfully designed stations offering valuable insights into the area’s diverse flora, fauna, and geological history. Here, nature truly comes alive.

A highlight of the route is the observation platform on the western shore of the lake, which, with its peaceful ambiance, invites you to rest and enjoy breathtaking views of the wildlife, plant life, and the lake’s sedimentation zone — a true gem for nature lovers and photographers alike.

The return path leads comfortably through lively Toblach and the popular Camping Olympia before bringing you back to Villabassa. Along the way, you can breathe in the fresh mountain air and fully enjoy the varied and captivating landscape.
