Snow does not always appear pure white, at least not to the attentive gaze of two painters like Alfons Walde or Max von Esterle. In his paintings, von Esterle poetically celebrates the magic of snow, while Walde - a little later - does so with concise expressiveness. This is the first time that these two important painters appear together in an exhibition. Alongside theirs, there are also snow-covered landscapes by other contemporary Italian and Austrian artists. All of these paintings create a variegated fabric that, unravelling, creates an unmissable spectacle. In the exhibition, of course, exponents of the art of our time with their abstract compositions or thought-provoking installations have not been left out. At the conclusion of the exhibition, in fact, at a time of climate change, a question about the ‘future of snow’ could not be left out: how much longer will we be able to enjoy this spectacle? A photo exhibition of thoughts and emotions. My name is Gabriel Colombani, and I am deeply passionate about art and people. The idea for this exhibition arose from a desire to express myself through photography, an art form I used to view as somewhat dry and self-contained. My perspective shifted when I had the opportunity to create this exhibition, inspired by a photo book I previously designed, which also lends its name to the show: “A me, a voi” ("To Me, To You“). This book is like a visual diary of my experiences, where each photo is connected to a significant person or moment. We humans are made up of countless facets, and few things are more meaningful than witnessing the reaction of someone seeing an image dedicated to them—whether beautiful or challenging. The farm is situated in S. Maddalena in the Val Vasies Valley at an altitude of 1400 m to 1500 m - an ideal area for the animals. You have the possibility to visit not only the animals, but also an entire farm. Pigs, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, poultry, birds, llamas, cats and hares of all breeds are represented here, as well as domesticated animals from other continents. Accompanied by our mountain guide, we head from the Mastaun farmstead (1,640 m) along the stream into the Mastaun valley. After passing the Mastaun alpine hut (1,810 m), the tour heads into the rear part of the valley up to an altitude of approximately 2,000 m. During a pleasant rest, you can enjoy the tranquillity of nature and the quiet winter idyll. Afterwards, you return to the meeting point. Walking time: approx. 4-5 hours including breaks. Into the silence - a silent snowshoe hike From San Candido we take the minibus or private cars via Santa Maria to Monte Rota. Here, we start our circular hike through snowy forest clearings with breath-taking views of the Dolomites. We learn to recognise animal tracks in the snow, to read scats and to assign vomit to specific animals. Eye contact with wild animals in the vast savannahs and forests of Africa, creating a deep bond between humans and animals. From 15 January, the Nature Museum will be showing images of this in an exhibition by Bolzano photographer Christian Passeri. Christian Passeri, who comes from Bolzano, lives in Berlin and works as a camera assistant for international film productions. He was inspired by the documentary films of the British wildlife filmmaker, naturalist and writer David Frederick Attenborough, who became famous for his award-winning nature documentaries for the BBC. Passeri has also dedicated himself to nature photography and documents the diversity of nature and its inhabitants with his camera. The exhibition is entitled ‘Contact’ - a term that captures the essence of Passeri's work: On his travels, especially through the unspoilt landscapes of Africa, he experiences fleeting but intense moments of eye contact with wild animals. These moments create a deep connection between man and animal that is emotional, moving and complex. Passeri endeavours to capture these special moments in his pictures and share them with his audience. The exhibition takes you on a journey to the origins of mankind and the magic of the wilderness. From the vastness of the savannah to the dense forests of Africa, Passeri shows the fragile yet majestic beauty of the blue planet. The exhibition will open on Wednesday, 15 January at 18:30 in the South Tyrol Museum of Nature and will run until the end of March. Free entrance.
